Is this normal? I would think i shouldnt be able to see my cabin filter from outside. Shouldnt there be a cover here ? Maybe you guys could look at yours and let me know.
It’s apparently normal to be visible like that. I can snap a picture in the morning just to confirm but I’m pretty sure I can see mine with the hood up as well.
It looks to me like some pieces were left out at the factory.
I do not know that any automaker is legally allowed to have vent to allow engine compartment fumes and any potential fires from the engine compartment to the passenger compartment.
Yes, it is DEFINITELY missing a piece, as this photo demonstrates:
Note the contrast between your pics, showing mising downward-curved shroud piece and the pics I found with Google.
Notice this piece from a closeup of the parts diagram:
Sarna March, my 2018 Srt Durango has that curved piece as well. I was just wondering if others with 2021's , esp Hellcats look the same.
Thanks for the reply.
Definitely missing that piece unless, inexplicably, they singled out one almost-identically-appointed truck model to have NO extra rain-protection piece on it. (Rain via inhaling misty air when raining, not directly hitting the filter from the sky above.)
Also, the curved whitish plastic cover with the reinforcing ribs in it is the "choose between recirculate and get fresh air" door/valve/thing, isn't it?
Yeah, looks like its normal. Stupid me didnt use the right search criteria. Searched under Durango Underhood cabin filter and some threads came up from different forums.
Looks the same on mine. If you start the truck and your AC is on recirculating setting, the flap will close. As soon as the truck is off, the flap opens.
BTW, the intake is separated from the engine compartment on DDHC
