So I’ve been following the order tracking thread for 2021 Challenger Hellcat’s. It’s a bit confusing with different plants and different contact info CAN/USA, so I’d like to hear updates and info from Canadian members who have pending orders.
Hopefully we can get a better idea of current activity and wait times. It’s frustrating to see everyone getting a VIN within days of ordering and I’m going on 6 weeks with zero updates

My order was placed 5/26
I’ve been calling every week asking the dealership for updates. He says it received a VON number the day it was ordered, now no updates since day 1

First up, there's no difference between orders originating in the US versus orders originating in Canada. A VIN is normally issued within a couple or few business days of a dealership placing an order. To have an order placed without a VIN for a month and a half is unusual and may indicate something wrong with the process. Usually you should have a VIN and be in one of the D status codes long, long ago. The dealership should be escalating to try to find out why a VIN hasn't been issued after so long.

It would be okay to be stuck in a D status for weeks or even months, and while it's not impossible everything's fine for your order, not having a VIN isn't a good sign.

There is more Canadian orders in the other tracking thread who also have no VIN. This is why I started this post, to get some info from the others waiting.
Are you currently waiting on an order? The process seems to be different this year with COVID & chip shortage

No, I'm not waiting. But the automotive factory process isn't changed. VIN-issuance is a paperwork task. They were even still issuing them during the shutdowns earlier this year.

Typically VIN issuance happens basically at the same time as going into D1 status, where your order is confirmed, parts are allocated, and your car is queued to be built... some day. Allocation doesn't mean the parts are on hand, or even available. It's sort of... "we've issued an order to our seat-belt supplier for 5,000 red ones in the next three months, and we've only used 2,781 of them, and even though we have none on-hand right now, we expect the supplier to still be sending us more, so we can commit." As long as there aren't parts required for your particular build that are in excess of what parts the factory has ordered, a VIN should be issued.

That's just what the paperwork process is. If you don't have a VIN, there's no real expectation you'll get a car built. They can still cancel an order after issuing a VIN, but there's not much reason to. Right now... you could be held up on some part that they haven't even ordered. Which would also explain the other orders you're saying are sitting, waiting. Now... it could be metric dashboard inserts. Or... engine block heaters. I think those are pretty close to the only parts unique to Canadian cars.

I'd still lean on the dealer to get an answer. Once you've got a VIN and D status, you're in a much better place. Sure, the waiting game there is eternal... D status can last anywhere from three weeks to nine months. But I think I've only ever seen one person in over a decade of hanging out on various LX forums where someone who got a VIN issued and went D but never got their car. Knowing if there's been a clerical error or if it's a parts issue might set your mind somewhat at ease.

The dealer told me when I was ordering that there’s a small chance they might not be able to fill my order. If not they could automatically flip it to a 2022…. I’d be ok with it if that was to happen 🤷‍♂️

Make sure he ordered the car. Awhile ago at a Chevy dealer we ordered a pickup and 3 months later inquired and he never ordered it.
Well, he just lost that sale.
I questioned that a while ago. He sent me this pic showing my order date and VON…..

Pushing 7 months now and still no VIN # Car is a sold order !! Have the paper work as well !! Not to impressed I can tell you that......
2 weeks ago I ran into a guy that works in the office for Chrysler. After I installed a gas service to his house we started talking about cars, then he offered to help me with my order. Within a couple days I became one of the only Canadians in this forum to get a VIN, once I had that he was able to push my order. My car is built now, just waiting for it to arrive at the dealership. Shipping company has had the car for 3 days now so hopefully it shows up tonight or tomorrow

I don’t think they can even place the order. They can do up an order at the dealership but when they submit the order it won’t allow it to process.
Look at the order tracking thread here on the forum. Guys in Canada were saying this over a month ago. The dealership tells everyone 8 weeks, they are full of BS. There’s many Canadian orders from a year ago that still have nothing… no vin, no car

I ordered a Hellcat WB on April 16, was informed it went to D status on Aug 8th and then D1 on Sep 4th with first week of October delivery. On Oct 4th was told build date showed Oct 8th. Then on the oct 5th, build date went to Oct 23rd. I also l8ve in Ontario, about 1 hour from the plant.

Ordered 2022 charger HC today, dealer suspect 7-8 months.
Guess I better contact my dealership. I asked them Friday if the 2022 order banks had opened yet, he said no and he will contact me as soon as they are available. I’m waiting to order a 2022 Challenger Super Stock
