I hate long posts, often they are tedious and boring, so I’ll be making lots of small posts in this thread to try to make it more enjoyable and entertaining! :)

The good:

I cannot under-express the thrill of running the HC to redline in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Seems very easy to drive in a straight line for 1mi pedal to the metal, but with the M6, one hand on the wheel, one hand on the shifter, one eye on the tach, one eye on the course... For a non-racer this was certainly a handful, trying to get every hp out without bumping the rev limiter.

My speedo showed a high of 175 in two of 1mi runs, 1mph higher than last Sept. The PS4S tires grabbed much better than the Firestone Indys last year.

The bad:

Best “official” speed was 172.985. (Last Sept the best was 173.537.) They had a “glitch” on my best run and my ticket had the speeds from the car that ran before me (10 and 40mph off). Adrenaline Rush was there and watched the run and said they announced my 1mi as 173.something. No idea if I beat the last Sept run, and probably will never know.

Some photos here:

I was about to ask for an update! Glad you had some safe speedy fun. That’s still a hell of a top speed. Hopefully I’ll find mine next year :)

How is the drive to Loring, by the way? Anything to see or do on the way?
LOL! I have lots to say and you just hit on some of my stories!

On the drive up my wife took some pics of "typical" ME but they are still on her phone, give me a day to post them.

For now I'll give you the story of the drive home:

Hop on 95S about 2mi from the CA border. Less than an hour on 95, cruise set on 82 (speed limit 75) I see a mile ahead flashing blue lights, lots of orange cones and signs, then I see people standing on both sides of the road and a huge stop sign (8' maybe?). As we get close there is a sign "Checkpoint Ahead", maybe 6-8 cars, 8-10 Border Patrol officers.

The BP officer puts his face right up to the window opening looking into the front and back of the car and asks "How many in the car?" I reply "Two, and a dog". He asks "Both U.S. citizens?". I say "Yes". Then my Golden steps on the console to see what's up and the BP German Shepherd sees her and jumps on my door!!!!!!!!!!! The handler immediately yanks him off. I was NOT happy! I pulled away at a brisk rate.

I washed the car when I returned and cannot find any scratches. Still...

11,417 on the M6 and about 1500 on the RE. The RE will be ready for next year, but I really would like to take the M6 back again sometime.

There is a small shop next to the Loring AFB run by a really good guy, I stop and see him when I go. In retrospect I should have shipped him my 3.70 diff and swapped out the 3.90 at his shop and run the car again. Next time I take the M6 that will be the plan!

Fast is cool, but the M6 really makes it a sport!
Ah. Got it. Thought you were driving your Redeye as much as I’m driving mine. You’re not 😂😂. I’m within a hu miles of 13K on mine as of today🙄
At the rate you drive, you should have ordered 2!
Glad you had a great time! Did you go stock shifter ball or your bad ass custom one, or both?

I considered putting the stock back on but after lots of use with the grip I figured it would not make a difference.

What does make a difference is the different seat position I need when I use a helmet. I missed 4th and went into 6th in a early run when the temp was cool, might have missed my best run because of that.

And thank you again for donating the core for the Model 29 shifter! If I sell, you will get it back!

The very cool yellow car that looked like a GT40 didn't have a good day.

I did 3 Wed and 3 Thurs. I could have done more but I didn't see any point in doing a run unless there was a chance for the new run to be better than the previous. When conditions deteriorated I just headed back to the hotel for beer and food!

Haha Hogue pistol shift....love it!
Revolver! I considered the Hogue 1911 but it doesn't feel as good.

Good hotels and food nearby? We'll have to coordinate next July.
Hotels, yes. Good, we can talk about that. We bring the dog so our choices are limited. My biggest concern is the car parked in the lot. We're thinking about a B&B next year, higher cost but better for the dog and peace of mind.

Lots of reasonably priced restaurants and bars, Presque Isle is a real, albeit old town with a U of ME campus.

Finally got some pics off my wife's phone. Some typical sights on 95 in northern ME. We did see a dead moose on Rt 1 early morning on the way to 95, a full Bullwinkle. There was fog in low areas that morning, surprised not to see car parts on the road around it.

One interesting thing: I hit my best "official" speed in 5th at 172.985. Theoretically that calculates to 6340rpm, I think the rev limiter on a non-RE would have kicked in by then. Maybe at that speed the tires stretch a bit making the rolling radius 2% greater?

We all see this on the dragsters, but does this happen on street tires? Maybe some of you racers can provide insight. Thanks.
I would have expected more from the RE also. As you know I expected to do better than last year but not. The Ferrari guy (Bob?) said he was much slower this year also. Did you hear anyone else saying anything? Maybe the air was not as good?

What really got my attention is how many bikes did 200+ !!! Not for me! :)
I think what we saw also says a lot about what you accomplished with your 2019.

For those that don't remember, last July AR ran his 2019 non-RE 191.097 in the 1-mi and 203.782 in the 1.5mi.

Not to mention the 10.032 1/4mi AR did a couple months later.

Quite a successful project!

I wish you the best of luck with the '22!

You all are making me sick with envy. A native of NH but now in GA where I can DD my Redeye year round. I was in NH while you were having fun in ME. Wish I could have joined you all. Hopefully there will be other opportunities. Love all the pictures 👍
I'll send a reminder next year when they post the dates so you can arrange your travel!

It was reported on the LTA FB page that a B52 landed at Loring AFB in Aug! They said it was the first time since 1993.

This is very good for us as it keeps the base on the radar so hopefully the gvt will help maintain the runways. My guess is that since there are no more space shuttles NASA is not as aggressive on maintaining alternate landing sites.

Couple other things that some might find interesting. LTA posted the Run Logs and it had my lost run, 173.003, about 1/2mph slower than last year. Maybe the air was not a good (Sept vs. July)? Maybe I was faster shifting at 6000 than at 6100? Who knows.

On my first WOT run I was very close to the 1mi at redline in 5th, I decided to hold it through the 1mi (maybe another 1 sec). I figured it might bump the rev limiter, but it would be a soft bump. 172.985! With a 3.90!
