new to the site but have a question: any truth to the U-tube video just posted saying dodge garage is telling him new dodge demon limited to 149? or is this just someone not well informed?

car is to do 8.9 second quarter at 151 was the selling point, so I am getting a drag car that is limited to less than what it was made to do?

LMK what you think?

Thanks Jeff

Wasnt the OG Demon governed to 168? I'd think the D170 would be the same. I think the wheels/tires are the same speed rating. I could be wrong.

The original was limited to 168 but once the crate ECM was installed that went away. Not sure how the new one will work since there is no ECM swap. They may limit because of tires but I’m sure there will be a way around it for racing.

It’s a tire speed rating issue. Not a car performance issue. Slowpoke is right. Same issue for super stocks. They come stock with drag radials and at a 17-18” wheel they are speed rated at 168 for the most part…the factory has to live by the speed rating from the tire manufacturer. You could have the speed limiter removed with a tune if that is a real concern…

yeah, that makes sense. I agree, very likely the tires. Hopefully they allow at least the 168 mph as the OG demon, would hate to let off or have the governor kick in at the end of a 1/4 mile pass, sounds like this would not allow a 8 second run.

Still an amazing car, just wish some of these things would be a little more obviously noted with purchase, versus finding out after the fact. Especially with such a focus driven car.

It's been 23 hours or so, but if memory serves you can get a 900whp hemi over 150 no problem. Other than a limiter, the car should have no problem pushing 200.
HP yes. But I read for the demon 170 they removed some things for weight savings and also the suspension is tuned for drag. Also wondering if any aero was effected? I’d still think a widebody redeye would hit a higher top speed due to the suspension setup being lower and tighter. But who knows? This is assuming you tuned the demon to remove the limiter and installed red eye wheels and tires on it.

but I’m probably wrong the demon 170 would probably hit 220 but it would be a hairy ride.

This is a purpose built 1/4 mile drag car, not a half mile or mile and that's what I refer to when talking about the car.

I take your point though and am well aware with different tires and an aftermarket tune it would get to 200 but again, it's a 1/4 mile drag car and in stock form, being used how it was designed to, 99.5% of the time will not exceed 149.

From the 170 Owner's Manual, also posted in another thread for everyone to download.

"Tires may exceed the speed rating of 149 mph (240 km/h) only in drag race applications and never in highway use."

This should clear up any confusion of the 149 number. You can go way faster.....but at your own risk. Until you hit the speed limiter.
