Hmm. Apparently it'd cost me $98K to get a '23.

It's tempting since I never had a Durango, but on the other hand, it's not like I need one. And more importantly, I probably couldn't pay for it. I hate having loans, so this will require some thought.

Did they state how many DDHC are going to be produced? Allocation based?
No, we never discussed that. But he did mention that people wanted Challengers and Chargers, Durangos not so much.

2023 production hasn't even started yet and I know the DDHCs will be built "later" in the production cycle, but that doesn't mean more orders will open up later (same thing that happened in 2021).
I was told to expect a spring or summer delivery if ordering a base model now. But also to order now as prices keep creeping up.

I didn't think I could even order a base model yet. Thought those would come out after the high zoot versions.

That would explain why the dealer wanted $98K, instead of the mere 91K the base model is supposed to cost.

Ordered mine today. Spoke with dealer yesterday and Plus and Premium packages were only choices available. No base. Wish I would have done it yesterday because the Premium Pkg was highlighted in red on screen and could not be selected today. I sat with manger as he went through order screen. Plus Pkg was only way order could be placed. Only 4 exterior colors to choose from: Black, Destroyer Gray, Red and White. Absolutely the only seat choice was Laguna Black/Demonic Red. Only options that could be selected were Black Package, Stripes and 3 season tires. Wanted 3rd row seat delete but not listed as an option.
Ask your dealer to change the build priority from 99 to 01.

It may happen automatically, but maybe not.

Anyone make the jump from a charger to the Durango?
Well, you already did what I did (except I kept the Challenger) so the diminished performance isn't news to you.

Starting with a Challenger, then a Trackhawk (since sold), and then a TRX, adding more weight each time, obviously the 'Hawk and TRX felt fairly sluggish in comparison. But for some reason I mind it much less in the TRX. That one is still a very fun car.

So slow learner that I am, here I'm thinking hard about ordering a Durango, knowing dang well that the mileage will suck and that it won't be anything like the Challenger in performance. Or as fun as the TRX.

Well, the very small dealership I use just told me that they can't order one.
But I can get a TRX for invoice, because those they can order. Odd.

My dealership isn’t getting any allocations for the 2023 challenger or chargers. They sell very few of them.
Similar to that my dealer can get TRXs, but not Challengers or Durangos.

Alright, just ordered one. Time will tell how it all works out. Guess that with some luck I'll see it in July?

Good to see that triple_B doesn't waste all his time on the TRX forum, by the way.

Regardless of vehicle price, I have learned that an ordered vehicle shows up at the dealer when it shows up. Sometimes it's surprisingly quick, other times it take many months more than it should. Either way there's nothing much I can do about it.

While I do like getting a heads up when the vehicle makes it to the rail yard, to have time to get the tow vehicle and a trailer ready, not even that is essential.

I know of only one person publicly admitting they are waiting for the new colors to be available to order one.
Color isn't an issue for me, but I sure hope that by the time mine eventually gets to D status, the order can be changed to a Base model.

Even if the price stays the same as for a Plus, it would be so nice not to get a sun roof, all kinds of electronic nannies, a 3rd row, and red seats.

The biggest drawback on a 21 is you really don’t know how they treated it. Why save money on a used car when you can just buy new and feel confident you F’d it up instead. Lol.
I could buy a new '21 from a dealer near where I used to live, for $125K if memory serves me.

Instead, a '23 at invoice is much more appealing, so that's what I ordered.

Why would they sell it to you at invoice if market conditions allow them to sell it to someone else for MSRP or more?
Maybe it's because I've bought quite a few vehicles from that dealership, and have become friends with the owner?

I was involved in many deals with "friends of the owner". We made money on all of them.
On this one they definitely will, but there's been one or two when getting a sale was more important to them than making any money on it. Needless to say, I was very grateful for that.

I don't expect to always get a screaming deal, so for the Durango invoice is close enough, I think.

Just isn't fun not knowing how it'll all turn out, and if they'll pull another fast one and sell it again in 2024 anyway.
They can keep making them until 2035 as far as I'm concerned. Once I have my '23 I'm good for a while.

It's basically a fact that 2023 will be the final year for the 6.2 Supercharged Hemi motor.
It wouldn't surprise me if they can squeeze another year or two out of the TRX. Different emission standards for the pickup than for a car.

Maybe the Durango will get this powerplant somewhere down the line, and carry on the Durango Hellcat name. Who knows.
That's what I'm afraid of, which is why I'm buying a 6.2 now.

It's not all that uncommon to take a step backwards in the codes these days.
