I'm starting to wonder if my stock A8 Cat has the 3.70 gear vs the 2.62s? It's a 2019, so do all 2019 and up year models come with this setup or is it optional? I bought it used a while ago.

You can feel a lot of torque in the first two gears which are critical for good 0-60 and 60 ft times in which neither I'm good at right now. I definitely have to ease into the gas pedal slowly or too much throttle would be some spin for sure.

Of course practice makes perfect but can still be quite difficult to get the power down to the point where I still have to drive with an egg under my foot launching this monster.

Even having 20x10.5 replica wheels with 305-35-20 Nitto drag radials in the rear and the car still struggles for traction down low.

I'm curious to know if I actually have the 3.70 gear as pictured as opposed to the regular 2.62 and if anyone else has it as well, what remedies have you used for better traction?

Switch to different gears?

Change the tire setup to stickier rubber than Nittos to lay the power down better?

Do suspension upgrades?

Launch in 2nd gear?

Any actual benefit to 3.70? Around 50 mph and above it hooks and continues to pull strong but I can only imagine how the power of the Cat feels below 50ish mph.

3.70's on an automatic? Ach der lieber. Best way to find out is put it in 6th gear. (direct drive in the automatic) and drive down the highway at a set speed, then look at the RPM, do the math, and find out what the final drive ratio be.
If you have access to a lift, put it in neutral and turn the rear tires about 3.5 times and see if the driveshaft turns less than once. If so, you got the 3.70, amazingly enough.

More likely, you have the factory-optional 3.09 rearend ratio.

But there are guys on this forum who have discussed the best wheel/tire diameter/overall diameter/width to extract as much traction from those wheel wells as possible.

If I were serious about traction, E.T.'s etc., I would jack the back end up and put truly impossibly large tires back there. (Huge tires WERE one of the original reasons for jacking up the luscious back ends of Mopars back in the day.

If you want a lovely 2.62 rearend, here's one for you, hot, fresh, and for sale.

That 3.70 on the window sticker is because the 3.70 is used with the standard transmission (the M6).

Once you order the A8 the gears get switched to 2.62 but the window sticker may not make that clear.

But I'd say there's zero chance your car left Brampton with a 3.70.

Folks here said the same thing about my 2018 T/A 392 A8 with its 3.90 rear end. I ended up taking it to the dealership and they verified via pulling the diff apart that the car did in fact come with the 3.90 from the factory (I bought it new) and it was a "fluke." This was done during my trade-in for the Hellcat as they were trying to say I modified the car with a taller rear end. It too listed the 3.90 on my window sticker.
