We have to remember, GM will not make a faster car than the Corvette. They never have and they never will. They won't piss off the 100's of 1000's of Vette owners.. Now there is talk of a Mid Engine Vette with 800 plus HP.. If that happens, than ya, we'll see a Camaro with Hellcat HP but until then, GM is content with the new Z06 Vette..
And that is exactly why GM doesn't release anything competitive in top tier of the muscle/pony car segment (ZL1, GT500 etc). I happen to like the ZL1, it seems like a very balanced, fantastic handling car. It's just relatively underpowered and the outward visibility just suck!

I read in a 2014/2015 Motor Trend article that gave details on the newer CTS-V. And in that article they compared it to the then unreleased Charger Hellcat - which officially wasn't out yet, but they had all of the statistical data for the comparison. Bottom line is that the CTS-V failed miserably against the Charger Hellcat in power, performance, and in price.
I was just looking at it online the other day and reading the reviews. I like it better than the Charger, but that's just my opinion.

all those waiting for a HC should be praying for that 396 Camaro........it will take sales away from the HC and bring prices down and availability up

its going to happen at some point....chevy and Ford arent going to sit around letting Dodge beat them
I actually wonder if it will. Got to realize a couple years ago when the GT500 went to 662 no one tried to compete. Camaro is mid 500's we weren't even at 500hp. They thought they were the top. So, Dodge waited, tested, tuned, etc. They also waited until Ford pretty much confirmed that there was no GT500 replacement and that they were going to the GT350. Which is the direct competition to the Z28. Both Ford and Chevy dropped major HP in favor of amazing handling. So, Dodge then came out with 707hp. They spent years working on this motor and setup. For Ford or Chevy to come up with a bigger engine, they would have had to be working on this for a while to, but they haven't been. And, in the next couple years 2017/2018, the next CAFE regulations kick in with a needed boost in MPG. So, i don't think you will see a car directly from Ford of Chevy to beat the Hellcat. Now, if the future for them goes to hybrid etc that's different. But for pure HP from a engine, i tihkn Hellcat will take the crown.

We'll find out May 16th what Chevy plans to do with the Camaro. They had since Ford announced the 662 horsepower Shelby to start working on an answer. Doesn't mean they did, but they had the time.

We talked a bit with the SRT boys who were at Mopars At the Strip in Las Vegas a few weeks ago. The horsepower wars came up in the conversation. They smiled and told us they have already prepared for the Brand Xers trying to one up Ma Mopar. They said that a few simple adjustments including a computer reflash on all existing Hellcats will up the power number well north of the 800 hp mark and..., they will still honor the warranties. This was directly from the horse's mouth. Some may ask, "Why not just do it now?" Well, a good poker player never tips their hand and goes all in right away. They always hold back a little in reserve until just the right moment.

I have a Trinity Tuner just waiting for Diablosport to get their act together and give us a good tune for the Hellcat. They list a tune for the Hellcat in their 2015 Catalog. Come on guys crack the code!!! Maybe they can get us back to the original 825hp the Hellcat originally had.

I find that a little hard to believe. Even if they can just flash it to 800 horsepower without negatively effecting emissions or blowing out the cats, the stock driveshaft can barely handle stock power as it is. They're gonna have to upgrade some stuff to be able to support that extra power and warranty it.

Ford didnt take very long to go from a 5.4 liter 550hp to a 5.8 liter 662hp....

im sure they have a 800hp twin turbo 5.0 ready to go.....they dont need a new engine

and Fords wont have a gas guzzler tax

Chevy....who knows...dont know why they didnt answer Ford the following year by upping the HP of the ZL1...they have the Vette in the Camaro's way

ive been hearing about this Cafe for a while....i thought the major changes were 2016.....now someone said 2017?...is that date moving?

if Ford wants to beat SRT they can.....they are a larger company with deeper pockets...+ they have the most high tech engines out there....they are years ahead of Dodge and possibly anyone else......love my Challenger, but im not blind thinking Dodge is the greatest

Ford and Chevy might eventually have an answer to the Challenger Hellcat, but what about the 4 door Charger Hellcat? There's nothing attractive about either car maker's sedan line up - let alone try to entice buyers with the idea of a sportier 700hp or 800hp version of those cars.
Perhaps bring back the Taurus SHO????

I have a 2012 ZL1 with 769 Rwhp that Livernois did the work on. The car is a beast and I have no issues driving it in heavy traffic, it was the 1st white ZL1 built vin 000011. It is a great car, it is my wifes favorite car to drive. I also just bought a hellcat 3 months ago, love the Hellcat and is a little more comfortable driving it. My Hellcat is a auto and the ZL1 is a 6 speed...Zl1 can be seen on google Larrys ZL1 769 rwhp...I have to say Andy and his team at Livernois in Michagan know the stuff when it comes to getting horsepower down..

SRT employs a lot of different staff. If these were SRT engineers then I'd give it more credence but I'm betting it was SRT marketing types (i.e. evangelists) and those types push more hot air than a fan in Phoenix.
I knew when I posted this that there were going to be a lot of doubters. These guys weren't the normal PR guys. They were pretty high up in the corporate food chain. And, I'm no greenhorn. I know when a guy is blowing smoke when he's taking cars. These guys had a lot of credibility and really knew the car in detail inside and out. They came from Detroit to personally see the Hellcat/Tesla grudge match race. Like I said before, believe what you will. Me, I'm gonna go enjoy my car and rip up some pavement with my measly 700+ hp.

Speaking of HP for those who followed my Tesla / Hellcat re-match down at the MATS show
I had a VERY reliable source from Dodge Corporate pull me aside at the track right after the "viral marketing team" spent about an hour GoProing up my Tesla and my Hellcat and tell me "if Chevrolet and Ford want to keep playing this game, we have 808HP in the Glove Box ready for you with a simple 5 minute tune at the dealer next year and we plan on leaving your warranty in place at the 808HP number" so don't think for a second that Ma-Mopar hasn't planned this one all along. I think the SRT Team plans on staying on top of this one boys !!!
