I have never owned one before now. Ive been lucky to have not been ticketed in quite some time. I feel my luck is running out since I own a Hellcat and my foot has an itch that tends to be itchier more and more.

I read a whole lot of reviews and went with the best one on the market.

Nice. Are the valentines still the best I was reading certain model Unidens were actually better? Either way it’s still a top notch detector.

I've owned Escort Max 360c, Valentine v1, and Uniden R8. Liked the GPS lock out on the Escort (would quiet the unit when going by the same false point 3 times), but range wasn't quite as good. Still have it in my wifes vehicle. My current daily is an R8. Range is awesome. GPS lock out is good, but not like the Escort. V1 had good range, but with no lock out, it was way too chatty for me. My son now has it, has played with the settings, and he likes it.

Good for you!
The radar detector is absolutely a required item to have in these cars.
I have run an Escort Redline (saved me 20+ times) for 6 years but the speaker recently failed. Too old to get a replacement speaker.
I ended up buying the latest Redline and it has the same arrows as the Valentine. Forward, behind, sides. Goes to show that the Valentine was ahead of the rest for a while. The range on the Redline was amazing though...a couple miles.
The latest Uniden (Reaperhwk) has gotten great reviews and is probably less expensive.

If you live in a Stasi state, you can mount it in your air cleaner pointed towards the intake opening, can't you? It would take some doing, but, just a thought.

This is the best quote I’ve read in awhile. Lol….

It’s impossible to go for a cruise in a Hellcat and not drive Fast lol

I haven’t bought a radar detector in forever.

With nowadays technology, are there any detectors that can detect a cop with a speed gun (or whatever they use now) with the speed radar detector off??

A long time ago, everyone said cops leave their radar guns off until they suspect a speeding car and then turn it on. And then we’re f*ckd.

My law enforcement friend says otherwise. He says "They are lazy and just leave them on all the time".

Very nice! I have a uniden which I love but the arrow feature on the valentine would be nice. In Wyo the HP do a lot of " Triggering " on each vehicle so If I need to rely on cars ahead of me to get an alert. I use my eyes as my primary defense and the detector as a secondary. Where they actually save me the most is when I'm not up to shenanigans but just not paying attention to speed zones etc..

I’ve definitely slowed down though the last couple years. I’ve been too lucky not getting busted knock on wood

I used to speed all the time on expressways. I got my Charger up to 171 and it had some left in it.

Only 160 so far in my Hellcat and it had A lot left in it. Feels like it can do 200.

Just use common sense and I’ve lived in the same area for a long time. I know all the good areas where to drive Fast.

Uniden R8 and Escort Redline 360 are best, but any protection is better than none.

It's called a Lidar, which is a laser speed measuring device. Detectors cannot block them nor detect them until its too late.
These are the devices that you see when the officer is stationary and typically either parked perpendicular to oncoming traffic or standing out of their car.
Radar can be used stationary or in motion and yes when in motion they are usually left on.

Neither have I. I think the best line of defense is situational awareness and Waze….

Nope, a radar detector should be first, then laser jammers, then situational awareness and Waze for the best protection. My radar detector has picked up radar LONG before situational awareness could come into play and Waze relies on people to make inputs which doesn't always happen. Waze also can't do anything about moving traffic cops.

I can't say how many times the detector saved my ass. Not only on the highway but around town, too. Pay a little now or pay a lot more later. As Blkout stated, it activates long before you can even see him, even around town. Never got a ticket in the HC in the 3+ years I've owned it. Must have for safe but speedy drivers lol.

The one thing that you have to keep in mind is that they operate using "line of sight". For that reason I slow down a bit for hills (not many where I live) and corners. On a flat straight road these things can pick up a KA band 9 miles out!!

I've owned Escort 360c and Escort 360 Redline detectors for the last 5 years. I have them installed in all my vehicles. I've been saved by these detectors more times than I could ever imagine. I got 1 ticket 2 1/2 years ago, but it was laser that got me. I don't have any laser jammers and radar detectors can't help you there, by the time it alerted me, I was toast. I can't really complain though, I was coming down a long stretch of highway late at night with almost no lights on the highway and the LEO was hidden off behind some trees. Typically at night when visibility is poor, I slow down some but on this night, I was in a hurry to get home and went against my own best judgment.

Have you ever heard the song Radar Gun by The Bottle Rockets? Funny song about a cop that got a brand new radar gun.
I still cant believe that someone has not brought a good quality cordless detector to market yet. After all it is 2024 almost. From what Passport and V1 have told me is that a battery detector just cant provide the power/range to be of good quality. Hmmm we got battery powered cars now but cant design a good battery operated detector yet? Dont make sense! They need to consult with Elon.
