It's happened a couple of times. Yes, I know my right from my left.

Car's in Sport mode, shifter in the manual gate. While driving in traffic, a pull on the right paddle resulted in a DOWNSHIFT. An expected 2-3 became a 2-1. Later, a 4-5 went 4-3 instead. WTF???

I'm thinking it's because the car wasn't being driven aggressively when this happened, but still... if there's any chance it could happen at high rpms... yikes.

Anyone else experience this?

Never had this happen once in over 2200 miles of driving. The only time it shifts when I don't tell it too in manual mode is when it downshifts on its own due to the speed being too high for the gear. For example, 55 mph in 8th and let off the gas, once or hits 50 or so it will drop to 7th gear. Continues as you slow down.

If it continues to do this and is reproducible you may want to take it to the dealer.

It happened a couple of times during a 33-mile morning commute. Interestingly, this is the first time it's done this... I have 1100 miles on the car, in similar driving conditions.

It seems pointless to paddle shift your way through traffic, but I just like winding up the gears a bit and shifting when I want to. Why don't I have the manual trans? Different subject ;-)

You didn't accidentally hold the right paddle, did you? Cause that would take it out of manual mode and place it back in full auto. Just a thought. (sorry, noticed you said it was in manual gate)

Rich without a doubt something is amiss. The cars software will prevent an over rev. If you were travelling at say 100mph and tried to paddle shift down into first it just would not do it.

Nope. If it hadn't done it a couple of times, I'd think it was my error... but the second time it happened, it really caught my attention.

Mine did the same thing yesterday with 2,100 miles on it. It did it about three times in a row and finally started shifting normally again? Also when I have my car in default setting, the paddle shifters are suppose to be off, but it still lets me use them? Prior to my Uconnect update, it was working correctly? Wonder if we have a glitch in the software update?

To update: SRT has downloaded data from my car, but unfortunately not live logging during a mis-shift. They provided me with replacement paddles, and last week my dealership swapped in the new paddles and performed the TCM flash. The old paddles went back to SRT for diagnosis.

So far, operation has been perfect... in all SRT modes including a custom setup. I will update when I know more...

Rich, has this happened after the switches and trans flash? There is a new post on this.

As a matter of fact, yes. I get an occasional downshift from the upshift paddle, still.

It was fine for a few weeks, but now the problem has resurfaced. Maybe the car relearned a bad behavior?

Tell the dealer to get you the harness from the switches to the steering control module. It's inside the wheel UNLESS they'd rather shotgun it and do that along with the steering control module which they may call a clockspring. Please keep me updated trying to help you and learn for myself. fnkychkn said they have had some harness' issues and Audi had the same just different end result.

The same thing happened to me. It actually redlined a few times without me telling it to. Its definitely the paddles. Under light pressure it downshifts and under hard pressure it up shifts. I am having my dealer replace the paddles. Did you get this resolved?
