It may be a dumb question but I figure I ask anyway as I'm legitimately curious.

My Cat is stock and I might be looking into an extended warranty for it. I do want to do a small build on the car like a 2.85 pulley and tune while still running just pump gas.

Are any extended warranty companies ok with a small build like that or no? If so, which extended warranties work with you in doing small mods like that on the car? TIA

You'll have to read the fine print, but usually no if they find out...

Leave your car stone stock; it needs no mods... period.

Don't tell them. Make sure the mods are reversible for plausible deniability. If there is no evidence of a mod, you have a chance.

I'm sure there not stupid to not know right? Say if the car had a 2.85 metco or Griptech pulley which are (both green belts), wouldn't they noticed that all of a sudden and be a dead give away?

Or maybe getting a 2.85 Hellraiser pulley (since there a black belt and look oem) would look more of a disguise and be better as opposed to the green belt aftermarket pulleys?

My only other concern is whenever bringing it in for service, and they check the car sticking that thing in the obd port or whatever, would they notice the car has been tuned?

If the mythical direct connection stage kits ever actually happen, they may be your best bet. Otherwise don’t do it if you’re worried about the warranty. Any company who will be looking at having to pay for a new $20k engine will be doing some digging to see if they can get out of paying for that much.

Edit: You will have to do research on an aftermarket warranty company as was mentioned above to be 100% sure. But with the DC kits (if they happen) you can at least say it was factory backed upgrades installed at an authorized dealership VS completely aftermarket parts and tuned by someone other than the manufacturer.

The problem isn't the pulleys and belt per se, the real problem is you can't really use those pulleys without a tune--which cannot be hidden.

Most extended warranties, including the Mopar extended warranty, will not cover a vehicle with a P1400 code present. Thus, adding a pulley will require a tune, which will give you the P1400. Once you get the P1400, it's there forever, even if you revert to stock and flash the OEM tune back in.

But yes, read all the fine print. Those warranties exist for two reasons: 1) Give you the feeling that you're covered for expensive breakdowns, 2) To give the warranty holder many ways to decline a claim. They do this by often enacting draconian requirements. Things like mandatory 6 month/5,000 mi oil changes. If you're a day late or a mile overdue... poof goes the warranty. Some even go so far as to limit the G forces loads and or braking forces. IE, they won't cover caliper or ABS related failures if there's a hard brake event in the history. Further, they require owners to keep all receipts for parts and services done, otherwise that can violate the warranty.

Extended warranties are great for people who leave the car stock and who are responsible and excellent at following directions. If you follow the rules to the Nth degree, then you're fine. But, if you're someone who doesn't pay attention to the small print and you overlook something, then their business model worked and they got your money for nothing.

Since the tune is the concern flashing that code....what if I used a "new" unlocked PCM instead of unlocking the OEM PCM and used that to have in the car and then swap out to the OEM PCM whenever bringing in for service?

Or is there still no way around it? Simply curious 🤔

P1400 code is not stored on the PCM. I can’t remember where, but it’s stored somewhere not removable and does live with the car.

This is grounding advice.

I think if you can't afford to pay for busted motors, superchargers or whatever than don't modify and get an extended warranty.

Seems like you gotta pay to play with these beyond stock and a tire.

Green belt don't mean shit. I have a green belt and my car is completely stock. My supercharger had to be replaced at 30k miles. I have an extended warranty through Ally. They didn't even come to look at it. $7000.00 job cost me $100.00

Good advice here. Direct connection would probably be something to consider if it really went through. I don't have bumper to bumper warranty anymore but I still have powertrain. Does Direct connection work with your powertrain warranty?

Wow what a wake up call. Why at 30k miles? I'm actually near that mileage. What happened?

Seems like either, get an extended warranty or mod it...can't have it both ways. Thank you all folks for your input.

If I do stay stock with an extended warranty....I know a part of me would think.."what if I modded"?

Our cars are the most bang for buck when it comes to modding and can make big power easily. I really do wonder if modding is worth doing as I've never modded before and it probably would have been a cool experience.

I can only imagine how much more of a straight line beast our cars would be modded. I really am very curious to know if simply adding a tune and a pulley is worth the extra 100 HP or not especially since I'm bored of stock power and race the car at the track often....
