Just placed my order on my Charger Redeye. It did not have the option of ordering the 3.09 rear. Has anyone had luck having Dodge do the 3.09 drive from factory?

If that is not possible if I bought the 3.09 gears and had Dodge install the part would that void my new car warranty?

Would the speedometer and odometer still read properly if I did this after?

Can't order it that way from what Ive read. I’m not sure your warranty would be intact even if a dealer did the install, strictly because it wasnt an option to order. You would need to call.

Why do you think you want 3.09s?

There are many here that thought that and became sorry or went back to 2.62s. Some Challenger owners couldn't go back because they ordered their car with 3.09s and wish they hadn't.

There is/are a reason(s) they don't offer 3.09s for the Charger.

There is the potential Warranty Issue even if the Dealer does the swap.

Your RPMs will be (in round #s) 20% higher.

You will more likely to break the tires loose with 3.09s.

You should do a Search for other threads on 3.09 owner experiences.

You should think about all this before worrying about your speedometer and/or odometer.

Still on the fence as far as the swap. I mostly want the gear change as the car would be faster once traction is not so much of an issue (moving along). I’m on the fence because yes it will be harder to get it to get it to hook from lower speeds and from my calculations may require a shift to 3rd to simply get to 60.

But thanks as I wasn’t aware of people swapping back to the 2.62

3.09s are more fun if you’re stock or close to stock

Love my 3.09's. I don't race however. They are mainly a sh!t ton of fun around town.

Having a 3.09 in a Charger I believe I can comment. My car currently has no tunes and I have taken it to the track on many occasions with drag tires. 3.09 works wonderfully on the track and will improve your 60'. After I do a tune I'll go back to the original 2.62. From what I've seen and read the 2.62 is better for higher hp tunes.

The Saturday/Sunday commute sucks with the 3.09! It's not undriveable but, you'll notice the rpm and top end speed. Passing sucks as well. It's not fun when it kicks down by 1k rpm just to pass and tops out quick. The only thing I regret with the 3.09 is the passing and cruising speeds. It's all on what you want. Want to get a better 60' at the track at the sacrifice of cruising?

hope this helps.

Thanks. I’m mostly going to be street and highway driving. Swapping out the tires for sure once I break it in but hoping I won’t regret the 3.09 if I do any 60 pulls on the highway against a car that should never be able to keep up lol.

2.62s are a great all around ratio for street and highway. You may like 3.09s for street, but hate them for highway, especially with a 20% increase in RPMs.

If you are concerned about 60 pulls, consider either Transmission Sport or Track Modes... these modes keeps RPM up a little higher in the torque range by preventing the trans from upshifting. Then, there are the paddles to instantaneously downshift and get the RPMs up into a better/higher torque range. Sometimes, I'll tap the - Paddle twice in succession which normally put the RPMs at around 3K with that gear HELD for a bit and then it's pedal down and hold on. :) Or, I will shift into Manual Mode and do all shifting, up and down, with the paddles. The 2.62s are more than enough if you use other available features as designed.

You're passing the wrong way lol. Slide that shifter over into manual mode first. Eliminates all that drama. I drive in M mode with the shifter (not the paddles) and it's awesome.
Highway driving is also fine. You have 8 gears. Unless your hwy driving is at 100mph for miles on end the added rpm's arent an issue. 75-85mph cruising along in 8th is pretty quiet and docile tbh.

The Xpel place in DFW quoted me the same to do the whole car. Since mine stays garaged and only driven on weekends, that seemed too rich for my blood. I instead paid Xpel a total of 3K. Here is what I got:

-Xpel on the whole front end of the car including front fenders and side mirrors
-got the rear fenders done
-also got the lower rear section behind the rear tires for those dragstrip burnouts
-all of the above was $2,500
-paid another $500 for the Xpel window tint. I got 20% on the side and back windows. The front window I kept it at 70% tint so that I get the heat protection from summer but it isn’t darkened.

So to sum up, you can workout a deal with your installer. The front nose and the fenders would be good.
thank you. Doesn’t seem like you would notice at a steady speed.

2.62 rear is RPM 1454
3.09 rear is RPM 1715

2.62 rear is RPM 1661
3.09 rear is RPM 1960
That's one thing I didn't care for with the Trackhawk. The gearing is really low so the engine is turning 2k-plus for no real reason.
Surely that was part of why the 'Hawk would get 16-17 mpg, while driving it slower than the Challenger, which gets 20-22.
