No you don’t need a new rear diff. I have a 3.70. It’s awesome. Everyone that knocks it never ran itI wouldn't even consider it. Just sell the car and get the auto. I'm a fan of swaps on older cars as they are easier and not easy to just sell and buy one with the stuff you want. But a newer car, theirs no financial reason to do it.
To do the swap you not only will have to swap the transmission and all the electronics to support that but you'll also need a new rear diff to. Those 3.70's will be to much for an auto.
Thank you, I thinking on how I would word this but you nailed it!I'm LBGTQ friendly but not looking to covert myself. Happy with what I got.![]()
Damn, you're going full sendNo you don’t need a new rear diff. I have a 3.70. It’s awesome. Everyone that knocks it never ran it
Not disagreeing with you here but are you sure? I know the auto is computer controlled and I'm just making the assume the M6 cars don't have a TCM (or whatever they are calling in a Dodge). I know the older cars don't have all these extra modules thus why I was saying it would be easier on the older cars and harder on the new ones. If the M6 has all the modules as well, and it's just a tune change then that's good to know and does make things much easier. And you don’t have to swap any electronics. Just wiring and a few things
I’m positive.Damn, you're going full sendI don't have a lot of experience with the A8 cars but I've gotta imagine the first 3 or so gears are just about useless with that high a gear. That's gotta be insane when you can get traction. I'd love to ride in an A8 with some 3.70's. 3.09's felt pretty good and that's a big jump to 3.70.

Good to know. Never would have thought they would have included all that stuff with the M6 cars.I’m positive.
There’s nothing extra, tcm is in the transmission. Different wiring, and the esm. Pcm needs to be flashed with os for an a8, and bcm needs to be reconfigured.Good to know. Never would have thought they would have included all that stuff with the M6 cars.
Couldn’t be more wrong. What Frosty said. If you want to do it, it's quite literally cheaper to sell your M6 and buy an A8 or vis versa than it is to transplant one for the other. I will say though, if you do try and do it, you'll find that doing the swap is the easy part. It's the chasing down of TCs, sensors, wiring, and so on that will really drag you down into, "OMG WTF was I thinking" land.
They have definitely come a long way. The video I watched was a done by a transmission specialist who also teaches transmission rebuilding to students at Weber State. He was super impressed with the design and called it one of the best ever. Here is a link to the video for anyone interested. A little long and tedious at times but still interesting enough to watch if you want to know how your ZF-8 works. Some of those hubs are cast aluminum. Fregin incredible
Trans really does learn. That part is incredible too. I went from a tire that didn’t have 85 inches of rollout to tire with over 91 inches. Once I quit pulling fuses/disconnecting battery it didn’t take long before the trans started changing it’s behavior to adapt. My tuner had put the correct rollout in the tune already, when I bolted the taller tires on it, but it still had to be driven a few hundred city miles to really dial itself in
