My neighbor got his hellcat in February... he put 3200 miles on it and then had catastrophic engine failure. Dodge is actually replacing the entire engine (everything below the supercharger). The car has been at the dealer for 6 weeks now - the crated engine just arrived about 4 days ago.

Has anybody else experienced anything like this... or is this an anomaly? Apparently dodge has said there was some sort of manufacturing defect - but I don't know exactly what the problem was.

There have been a few supercharger/exchanger leaks where Dodge has had to replace the SC. Your story would be the first catastrophic event I have heard of on these forums.

Thank goodness, there haven't been many stories. It seems that the percentage of severe down time for engines has been very low and with new engine technology, I would say the ratio is still pretty good. Dodge has been excellent about staying on top of updates and issues for me so, I have been very happy with how they have acted on engine concerns.

Do you have more details concerning the 'catastrophic' failure, like what actually failed??
I'll try to see if I can find out more info. Its my neighbor a few houses down. Dodge seems to be taking care of it - except that if it was me I would have demanded another car - not just engine replacement.

Its the first instance I've heard of big problems too. Allegedly the repair cost is $22,000

Do you have one also? Are you ordering one? Curious what brought you here?

There are way too many problems considering how few cars are on this forum compared to total number that have been built. I have had my car for 12 days, check engine light code P1611 came on second day. Reset and came back in 100 miles, now stays on. Dealer had to get permission from higer up to get new super charger boost control sensor. Due in tomorow.

So it did fail again, there's a surprise. Hope the SBC repairs it, if not wiring issue.

Tammie,, how many miles on your car,,, and how is everything holding up.. any issues with those sensors
4500. Haven't had any issues. The driver door lock needs a little program zap, but I told them next time I come in. I am used to my car taunting me now so, I will enjoy for a while. The UConnect update helped a lot.

Dodge (or any other car manufacturer) only needs to fix the problem. The only way you can get a replacement car is if they can't fix your car. Yes, you'd rather have the original numbers matching engine not fail, but it is unrealistic to expect a whole new car instead of a replacement engine.

I agree,,I would have them fix the engine,, numbers will matter in 30 years...and Tammie,, my drivers door lock still hangs up..
Then the computer will show it and they can re code it. I just didn't want to wait and figured I would have it done next time v

I'm not trolling. I have posted on this forum here and there for a while. I have a 392, and an RT, which I've posted pics. I'm in the market for a hellcat, but have refused to give in to the rabid dealers and such - at this point. I said Dodge was taking car of the problem - even gave my neighbor a loaner no questions asked (also a challenger).

I have no reason to "troll" I was just asking if anybody else had problems because it seemed strange.
