I got a quote to do PPF on my JB. They recommend doing the whole front end(windshield forward), headlights, side mirrors, all 4 flares, rocker panels, door cups, and trunk area. Looking around $3900 for all that, not cheap.

This car also has gunmetal stripes which the place says they can go over. The PPF has a 10 yr guarantee then I need to replace the PPF, and probably the stripes too as they will most likely peel off with the PPF.

For $3900 I could:

1)Do all the PPF above
2)Drive it naked and when it gets beat $3900 would easily pay for a respray of the front end

I also plan to daily this car in the summer, I'm guessing it will get 8k/year so it will have too many miles in a few years to be a collectable car IMO.

I also read that some ppl say PPF looks like crap up close with the edges and seems to peel and discolor as it ages.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm leaning towards doing the PPF at this point though.

I’m happy with the PPF on my trackhawk. Zero discoloration or edges peeling after 2 years. But, you do see it especially anywhere there was a chip before PPF was applied. I would do it again being the rear rockers get blasted on a lot of SRT vehicles

I never understood PPF. Why are you paying thousands of dollars to prevent rock chips. You can literally sand and respray the entire bumper, hood and skirts for less...

It's a car. It's going to get chips and scratches. And at the end of the day, its not a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

That being said, if having 100% pristine and perfect paint is really that important, then go for it I guess. Also, I would 100% PPF any matte paint due to the absolute pain it is to fix.

I’m not sure where you can get that work done that will match perfectly for the $1200 I paid for the amount of PPF coverage I got. I would agree that rock guards are a cheaper alternative if you don’t want your rear flares sandblasted totally away within a few years if it’s a daily driver.

The Trackhawk has no front guard options due to the wheel liner design. I have had past SRT vehicles and they will 100% get sandblasted in the rear areas in front of rear tires. Being I was putting PPF there, adding some to the front for how cheap I got quoted was a no brainer. I have more expensive cars with no PPF. It makes sense depending on your usage

I had PPF on my white Redeye. Not a fan. But everyone is different. I’ve been through the whole “I can’t get a chip worry” and I’m now over it. You have to enjoy your stuff. And the stuff can get repaired. It’s an assembly line car, nothing more. Hens teeth are rare, not these cars.

Is it true it’s harder to see on black?

WBRE here. I only did the front bumper, all four flares, and door cups. Skipped the hood. I also added rock guards and ZL1 side skirts for side protection help. No need to wrap your whole car lol. Trunk area??? nah. Two years in and it looks new.

Black cars show the most imperfections (Scratches, chips, dents, etc) more than any other color my pops had a black 16 RT shaker and at 30k miles the front bumper was peppered in white stone chips. I had my C7 Z07 fully XPEL covered and the film was pretty much invisible as it was tucked everywhere and all vents and emblems were removed for a seamless installation. Sadly the XPEL doesn't protect against hitting trees since my car was totaled a few weeks back unfortunately crappy situation. I would 100% get PPF on my replacement for the Z again down the line. My advice is make sure the installer is top notch a bad installation will be an eyesore.

PPF with ceramic coating is worth every penny in my opinion. I did the front end, full hood, front quarter panels, doors and wheel flares for 4k.
Its a 2019, the rear wheel flares PPF are pitted from small rocks, paint is still good, just need to replace the PPF. This happened before I installed mud flaps and side skirt.

I skipped it on mine, stripes are one issue & I looked at a few that had been done & didn't like the seams. They say you can't tell, but I can tell.
When I bought my 2018 HC, the car had PPF on it. I had the dealership rip it all off before I took it home. Not sure if it was installers or what, put the edges were peeling up from the hood and dirt got underneath. So car looked dirty even after it was washed. Once they removed it all, car looked 100% better. I would say take some of that money and get it ceramic coated instead. I know it doesn't protect from paint chips, but after 2 years, car still looks showroom. I paid $850 for paint correction and coating. Well worth the money. Still looks pristine.

That seems high to me. I got the same areas covered minus the trunk, the entire car ceramic coated, the windows tinted, and a windshield coating, for 3k total. They did a great job and after 6 months it looks great.

yeah it’s high but it gets great reviews and one guy I know is super happy with his PPF they did on his scat pack. They also say they wrap every edge possible under the panels so the edges are non existent.

Have entire front end covered in Expel, done by previous owner and installer did an excellent job, no peeling. I have to go over Xylanders paint swirl touch up instructions (link below) for my trunk and doors. Nice thing is the ppf protects from dirt scratches from washing. Tears and imperfections from damage can't really be repaired so that is a disadvantage. Here is a pic of a "Scratch" in the PPF, it doesn't go through to the paint but I'll have to peel it off to get rid of it. I'm skeptical of painters doing a good job of blending, that is I just don't know a painter I would trust to fix my paint job.

I have the PPF on my car on the front bumper, mirrors and wheel flairs. My car was also ceramic coated. In Ohio, we have a tons of bugs in the spring and summer months. I love that I can use spray wax and the bugs wipe right off. I plan on doing the PPF on my 2017 Fiat Abarth. Having it polished first then apply XPEL and final step ceramic coat. Highly recommend!!!!

I enjoy detailing and machine polishing my cars every six months. Relaxing. Like fly fishing. PPF would take that away from me and I would have to interact more with fam and friends instead, LOL
