Okay, I’m looking to get either some Nitto nt555r2 or the Michelin ps4s for the rear, on my stock wheel 9.5. My main question is, how much difference in traction is there between say a 275 or a 305-15 on a good tire? Im having a hard time justifying buying another set of wider replicas if the traction is going to be minimal. Not tracking the car, just want something that I can play around on the street without getting smoked by any sports car because I just spin my 707 hp monster on crappy stock tires…….

A 275 drag radial will hook better than a 345 street tire. Tire compound is the most important factor followed by tire patch and width.

If you put 305 drag radial on it with replicas you get slightly better traction than the same tire with 275. Call me captain obvious if you like. I have 275 Micky Ts DRs on mine and it was a HUGE improvement over PZ junk. While the gain on the 305 may not be huge, the staggered look with big street meat on the back looks cool.
For real gains in traction you need a smaller wheel and suspension work

285/35’s on all fours are a great fit and look on 9.5” wheels. You can get 285/40 but very few manufacturers out there for that size. I went Continental Extreme Contact Sport and am a fan boy now. Great grip and ride IMO. They wear real well too.

On a 9.5" wheel, both tires in 275 or 305 size have the same sized contact patch. Meaning, if you put a 305 on a 9.5" wheel, you're just wasting money. On 275 Michelins, I was able to pull 3.3 0-60 on the street. You're not going to get much better than that, given the HC's massive frontal weight bias. Regardless of the tire, DR or not, the HC is never going to be a car you can just romp on it from a dig and expect to have any amount of traction. Driving a HC takes lots of practice and finesse.

I put 305 Nitto 555 on my 9.5 and they did bulge a little on the side but it was a world of difference over the 275 Factory tire. Looked so much better too.

Also, if you go for PS4S, I strongly recommend switching the fronts for the same tire as well. On the other hand, do a search here and see what people have to say about high speed wobble under hard acceleration with this tire in the back. Somehow PS4S makes the car more sensitive to alignment issues/improper rims/bad cradle bushings etc. This is probably more noticeable with wider tires. Just be aware of that. BTW, other than that, PS4S is a superior tire for a street car.

Wrong. Get a real wheel, real tire, take some weight out of the front.

No doubt. But a Nitto 555 on a 275 would actually be faster and offer more traction than the 305. Less weight, no skating.

i always thought 305 contact path on a 9.5 isn’t gonna get the most out of the tire
When you overmatch the tire for the wheel, the tread gets rolled up into the sidewall somewhat. This softens the sidewall, which reduces cornering potential. It also prevents proper torque wrinkling of the sidewall, which reduces traction bite. Further, the tire will skate laterally somewhat, which prevents clean straight forward launches (and further reduces grip). A big tire on a little wheel can look cool, but it's like big wings on a Honda... looks cool, does nothing good.

275 nittos are perfect for me. just got them installed last week and they seem to hook immediately. i definitely have to get rid of that fear of spinning i got from the pz’s. i find myself still afraid to really launch the car from 0 but i’m slowly getting there

After I cut a deal to turn in my 1320 and buy the used Hellcat I ran home and stole all my Nexen's from the 1320 BEFORE handing it in, LOL.....
So come spring I'll run nexen 275/40R20's Drag Spec on the rear and i already know they will be a world of difference because they were on the 1320. I even have a pair of old 1320 Wheels that I can prob get away with. WTH I already have them and they're free so...
