2020 HC, 13,500 miles. Have only driven it about 2,000 miles since I bought it in June of this year. Changed oil the first week. I do my own oil changes & plan on buying an extended warranty before the factory one expires. Do I need to show proof of an oil change every 6 months, even if it is driven maybe only 1500 miles every 6 months? Thanks!

According to the owners manual under servicing and maintenance, "under no circumstances should oil change intervals exceed 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first." Even though I don't agree with this, I have stuck to the 6 month interval regardless of mileage as I don't want to risk my warranty.

Are 6 month oil changes mandatory for warranty?
Yes they are. It says right in the manual that you are required to properly maintain your vehicle and that it is your responsibility and that in the event of a dispute that you will be required to show proof of service and receipts. So yes, you are required to keep a log or record and have receipts just in case.

Now this is for a major claim. They will almost never ask for this but if the worst happens you have to assume they will.

Read your Owner's Manual, it's all spelled out. If you don't have one you can download one from Dodge.com or call Dodge customer service and they will mail one to you.

People will say that it is but in my 35 years of car ownership I have never been asked to show any proof of oil changes.
Most people won't ever need to. But if someone has a catastrophic engine failure at say, 19,000 miles and the person left it stock, then the manufacturer is going to dig through everything to try and explain away a $25,000-$35,000 engine replacement. If the person went 8,000 miles or 8 months between an oil change... It might get ugly.

Good to know. Thanks for the replies. Guess I'll be buying oil & a filter tomorrow. At least I'll have a receipt.
Buy a small notebook just for the car. Everything you do write the date, mileage and what you did on a separate page then attach or glue receipts to opposite page, keeps everything neat and organized and may save the day at some point.

When Mopar replaced the engine in my Ram earlier this year I was asked to provide complete maintenance records before they authorized the engine replacement. I scan every service invoice as a pdf and keep them on my computer.

Read and follow the maintenance requirements in your owner's manual and warranty paperwork, use the fluids they recommend and keep records.

Here we go.............. 😁 What does the oil life monitor say? The "6 or 6K" was Pre-Covid, and this is a new world. Oil doesn't deteriorate with a car sitting still either. The 6 months is for stop and go driving but sitting is another story. Last Spring, my monitor took just over 8 months to go to zero, and only had 2K miles because of no driving, then I changed it. It still seemed like a waste, but..........

The Manual does say to follow the monitor but then it also says in no case go more than 6 months or 6,000 miles so just no way around it.

And we did have someone here that got denied on an engine repair because of this, the thread was maybe a year and a half ago.

I begrudgingly drained oil with just 2100kms on it out of my car yesterday. Because six months. Money down the drain and more environmental impact. Needless and unjustified. The car will now sit for 6 months over the winter... and require another oil change in the Spring.

What I do is buy 12 months worth of oil for the receipt, change it once a year, and use (and reuse) the same oil in other vehicles around here. I will have the proof for warranty claims and promote less waste. I don't change the filter. I photo document the oil life reset too.

I am not a tree hugger by any means but this is financially, socially and environmentally irresponsible.

I think the warranties should be adjusted for us Canadians. 99% of us can't drive these cars all year around. They already shafted us by giving us a lesser warranty to begin with..

I talked to the service manager at the dealer I go to about this. In Illinois your lucky if you get 8 months of driving a yr before salt season. I told him just driving the car on weekends and occasionally during the week I might only have 1500 to 2000 miles on the oil. He said its not like the old days, now the MFGR will look for anything to deny warranty.
