A8? Brake lights come on when the pedal depressed?New battery, checked fuses, checked relays. Over 12V on the dash. Starter not making a sound. Just started and drove fine 3 days ago. Any advice before i throw a new starter at it?
Lights come on, over 12v on the dash when starting, no lights dim. Fuel pump does its thing etc. Have a starter on order. It is SUPER easy to get to. Like im astonished its so easy. 3 bolts and 2 wires.A8? Brake lights come on when the pedal depressed?
If your high beams are strong & bright & don't dim engine off, then you might be right.
You could check the voltage @ the starter + terminal & then use a jumper to the solenoid terminal to see if the starter energizes. That would confirm the starter or not.
Everything that would normally happens on start works, except for the starter. Turns on lights up like normal.Need more info. So you push the button and absolutely nothing happens?
2016, very out of warranty, bought used. What year? Is it out of warranty? Did you buy it new?
The only thing that DOESNT happen is the car turning over. All lights, dash, headlights fuel pump, exhaust valves etc cycle or do their thing as normal. Relays have been swapped several times as have fuses. Foot is on the brake, car is in park. I have the starter out already and going to take it in to the dealership to see if they can test it.OK, so when you push the button absolutely nothing happens, correct? First things that come up are:
1. Check fuses.
2. Is your foot on the brake? (Sorry for dumb questions.)
3. Are you in P or N? (Again.)
4. If you short 12v to the solenoid, does it crank?
5. If it cranks when the solenoid is shorted:
5a. Are the brake and shifter interlock switches functioning properly?
5b. Did maybe a previous owner install a kill switch and maybe it is still there or some wires remain that may have shorted?
What ambient temps are you dealing with??So, swapped starter, battery and it still wouldnt crank over. Left the hood up because it was suppose to be about 30 degrees warmer the next day and figured "hell maybe it just cold". Welp, it may have just been too cold. Cranked right over without hesitation. Damn cars are temperamental.
I don't know where you are but here in NH it gets pretty cold and I have never had trouble starting. So, swapped starter, battery and it still wouldnt crank over. Below 20 for a while. Nothing the car hasnt seen before though. What ambient temps are you dealing with??
I never tested the old starter. Car would not start remotely either. Idk what happened but its starting fine now. Ill deal with it later if it shows itself again.I don't know where you are but here in NH it gets pretty cold and I have never had trouble starting.
I think there are things going on you/we have not discovered. You never tired to jump 12v to the solenoid when it was non-operational.
Did it not start remotely?
There are a lot of questions I can ask to diagnose a problem, but....
