I've used battery tenders for years on my old cars but I have a question on the Hellcat: Can you leave the hood or trunk up with the alarm set, while you have the tender hooked up? Or will the open hood or trunk prevent the alarm from arming fully?

Since day one, only the doors were monitored by the alarm. The switch under the hood by firewall is for the remote start only (the M6 will have a blank hole there). Trunk was never monitored either but with the new alarm this year, 2022 could be different. But the older ones you do what you want as long as you didn't open the door.

Steve,

I believe I saw a picture of some other member where he sneak in the battery tender thru the passenger’s headlight fake intake, you may try that and let us know how it goes… 😉

By the way, since we are talking about battery tenders, would you or any other members recommend one? Ideally something made in the USA (I know each day is getting harder to find something made here for a decent price…) and not too big, just intended for when winter arrives…

Thanks in advance,

SAM

I use this one, and quite happy with it.

Whatever you buy, make sure that it will automatically restart if power goes down temporarily. Some battery tenders do it, while others don't.

Why would you arm you alarm? When I park mine for the winter, I put the tender on in the front under the hood, close the hood but don't latch it and put the cover on it...

To lock the doors and arm the anti-theft system. Can't be too paranoid with these cars. I also keep all the keys in their own RF blocking pouches in the house.

That's a great 💡. Running the cord through the inner headlight

I've had a really good experience with this one. Sorry, I don't know origin...like you said this kind of stuff is pretty hard to find domestically manufactured. I bought it on Black Friday promo (probably like $20 then), probably 8 years ago at this point, and seems just like a more expensive CTEK unit.

Has been perfect at smart trickle charging and identifies when a battery is bad. My Viper is always on it, and one day this unit said that battery was bad. That battery was still under the Sears warranty, and they told me they had to test it to confirm. Well, their results confirmed what the this tender said. Once again, not because it wasn't charged, but because the battery had actually failed.

I put it on my hellcat for like a half day once a week to keep it charged. If this broke, I'd buy this same one without a thought.
