Hi when I bought my car and imported it to the UK all of the air compressor and tyre repair kit had been removed. I decided anyway to buy a spare Devils Rim clone (perfect btw for less than $300) and then I put new tyres on the car and used one of the old ones to make me a spare wheel.

Anyhow all the standard scissor jacks look too unstable, I wouldnt want to be resting the car on a scissor jack at the side of a busy highway.

Can anyone recommend a good bottle jack low enough to get under the cill?

Picture just because I love to show it off!

I'm 66, driving since I was 16 like most of us, and have had exactly ONE flat tire in my life. Modern tires and the TPMS have all but eliminated the need for a jack and spare tire in the car. Plus, with your cell phone you've got Roadside Assistance just a phone call away. Finally, there's no cargo net in the trunk, and a jack of any type would smack the sides of the trunk unless very securely locked down, especially during enthusiastic driving. I wouldn't worry about it.

Beautiful car by the way!

Wait, we're all right. When I was "over there", I recall a bottle jack meaning something with a piston and cylinder, NOT necessarily the vertical type. A "scissor" jack could then be a "bottle jack". Obviously, a traditional US bottle jack would never fit under there. I carry a smaller "scissor" jack when on the road, that is hydraulically activated and has 4 wheels so very stable.

I found a low profile trolley jack that comes in a carry case that won't roll around. 2 Ton Low Profile Trolley Jack With Carry Case & Jacking Pad

I live on a new build estate and there are many houses getting built. So far in our household we have had 4 punctures this year and another neighbour has had 2, and all of them have been caused by nails or screws which have been left on the road.

The last thing I want is to be in the middle of nowhere with my car and get a flat and not be able to change it so would rather air on the side of caution (hence buying a rim and building a spare wheel).

Thanks for the replies (y)

That looks like an excellent low profile Trolley Jack (TJL2C) which easily clears the rear rubber factory lift pads and will also clear using the ZL1 mag pucks for font lifting whereas most most Trolley Jacks are too high and wont work. Unfortunately it's N/A in the US that I can find. IMO It's MUCH safer to use a Trolley Jack than a Scissors Jack for road emergency lifting.

Sorry to Hijack your thread but can you tell us about the time and costs it took to get an expensive 4,400 pound of machinery across to the UK

I agree, in 68 years of driving I've had to many flats to count. Yes, less more recently, but still happens.
Let us know if the trolley you bought will fit under your car. The jacking points in front on my Hellcat are far enough in I had to get a longer low length floor jack to service it in my garage. I'm guessing it may work for jacking under the pinch welds only, at least in the front.

Hi Nemesis,

This is my third American car in the UK

First one: 2015 Hellcat bought from a company in uk called 51st Auto's
Second: 2019 Dodge Ram Bighorn bought from David Boatwright Partnership

And this one my Hellcat Redeye I bought from Carricks in Texas (Home - Carricks Autos)

Basically when I was looking to buy a Redeye in the UK the cheapest one available was £105,000 GBP which is around $145,000 which was just ridiculous so I had looked many times at importing my own and wasn't sure what was involved but found a company with good reviews called "Ship My Car" (Car Shipping and Instant Quote Specialists - Ship My Car UK) to be honest I wasn't sure at first if they where legitimate but after a looking at their social media and the reviews I was convinced to give it a try.

  • Firstly the car in Carricks was pre-owned and had 5,000 miles on it and I paid $74,000 for it. £55,000
  • Ship My Car charged me £4,000 to fully import and register (that included collecting from garage, taking to port, registering in UK and delivering it to me).
  • After import the duties and tax into the country where £18,000 ($24,000)
Total Cost to get the car to me in the UK: £77,000 ($105,000)

Purchase car from Carricks on 7th October 2020 and it was delivered to me on the 4th February (y) 17 Weeks from purchase to delivery (probably quicker than the Canadians got theirs lol)

Very positive experience and a massive saving against buying from a dealer in the UK. I have looked at costs and basically with import and transport fees whatever the car is in US and in $ it will be roughly the same in the UK in £ so say a $60,000 car in US will cost me £60,000 GBP by the time its imported.

Much better than what I had paid for my previous hellcat and Ram!

Yes, they certainly attract a lot of attention which is good and bad. The most annoying thing is when you pull up to a junction and you have people saying wow look at that mustang!!

In the UK the average person believes every muscle car they see is a mustang :D

I no longer have the ram I had to sell it so I could afford to buy the redeye, I do totally miss the Ram but I had to make a decision I couldn't afford to have both as I also have another vehicle which is my every day driver.

Another thing you dont realise is the price of Fuel in the UK is astronomical!! Believe this or not we pay £1.40 GBP per LITER and 1 Gallon = 3.8L so that's £5.32 GBP per Gallon $7.32!

And getting an average of 10mpg I can tell you if I take it out for a couple of hours twice per week that's $100

But it puts a smile on my face so why not!

Just ordered the new Defender 110 which is due in November so looking forward to that also.

Also when out in hellcat everyone asking you to rev it, taking videos for their snap chat and following you while videoing you and tell you to floor it!! The last thing I need is video evidence of me speeding or driving like a t**t

Whenever they pull out a phone I dont rev, do burnouts or anything that would shine bad light on me its just not worth it.
