Hello everyone, just wondering what would be the best drag radial replacement for the 315/40/18s Nittos that these cars come with? Where I’m at we don’t have a drag strip anymore so I’m looking for the best replacement drag radial other than the NT05r for the street. I am also running a p4d brace which helps but still can blow the tires off at the elevation I’m at. I would like the keep the factory rims? Has anyone done this besides dropping down rim sizes?

Thanks!

I would skip to the nearest cousin - 555RIIs. They come in the factory size and you can choose to pair the front with a slightly smaller G2 (or keep all 4 corners for rotation). I think the NTs have better traction from a dig (softer sidewalls) - but the 555s are a good DR street tire. I tend to prefer the Mickeys for the strip - nittos for the street.

I looked to purchase Nitto drag radials, a few weeks ago, and every tire dealer I spoke with stated that the Nitto tires were not available. I then went with the M/T, still winter around here so have not taken the Hellcat out as yet. Hopefully the M/T tires will not disapoint.

More like 3”

The 35 is wider than the 45 and almost just as tall

Never understood why they don’t size em tread/dia/rim like they do their slicks

I thought the R's were better than the SS?
The SS tire is an excellent dual purpose tire that works great at the track, too, imo, and I've run them on three cars, and have run both SS and R on my hellcat. The SS work very well. I've found that the R tire last longer. On the R tire, they were still working pretty good even when I got down to the wear bars.

The SS though is the tire to get if you are driving to the track, etc., because they are designed to also be driven on wet roads, too, and the R tire is not. The SS tire will wear faster than a "stock" tire though, and probably faster than the nittos, so I wouldn't run it all the time if you are just cruising a lot in your car.

I haven't run nittos in about 15 years, just becaue MT has worked for me, so I can't comment on those. T

R work great on the street…

In so cal !

They last almost 2000 miles with a hundred passes mixed in. Wear like a hard riden sport bike tire does. Best thing since sliced bread

They all wear down within a month or two and have zero traction in the rain. I didnt find the SS to hook up any better than the Nitto 555R2. The new 555R2 is a total game changer imo.

What a DR tire is designed to do NEW is a totally different story after they have neen driven a couple months. Thats if u actually put power to them of course.

Like all DR's they wear out really quick for any usable rain days. They can wear out and still get good traction in the dry tho but NONE of these tires are rain worthy after driving them and smashing the pedal a dozen times lol

The R tire is simply what the SS will be after a couple months of driving which will mean no rain groves.

Great info. So for a true street car that sees the track now and then, you think the Nitto 555R2 is the way to go. Makes sense. If we are talking a 20" wheel or something like that, then I wouldn't be surprised that the Nitto might work as well as the SS at the track.

I really never drove my SS tires on the street much at all. Just 50 miles round trip to the track and putzing around town. I didn't street it a lot simply because I wanted to save it for the track. I see it as a tire for a second set of wheels that you throw on for track days if you have to drive there. I ran it on 15" wheels and then on an 18" wheel for the Hellcat. The two times I drove the SS tire in the rain, I was coming home from the track, and I was VERY careful. But would never do that "voluntarily."
