Complete WASTE of money bro. The Uniden R3, R4 or R7 is the BEST unit out there period. We tried (3) different units one day with both a Laser and a Radar gun when I was a Cop in the Traffic division and we tested them all from a 1000 feet to 1/8th mile to 1/4 mile to a mile.

The Uniden R7 was going off almost a MILE away with Radar and we could not even see the car it was tracking. The other was the top of the line Escort 360 which was very good as well but not as good as the R7. The Valentine one was the 3rd and it was really good as well but none beat the R7.

$500 will ABSOLUTELY get u a high end unit. If u spend $4700 BEFORE install then u got ripped off bro really bad and was sold a bag of goods......

The Uniden is the BEST unit out there period and they cost less than $500. Spending an absurd amount of money on a Radar/Laser unit does NOT get u a better unit that is fact!

The Radenso isnt listed anywhere as being a top unit by anyone. Im sure it works fine tho but no where near as good as the Uniden. Wow $4700 smfh geeeeez bro. 🤦‍♂️
I have this set up in all 11 of my cars. ;)

Quietly calculating... 4700 times 11...unnh..... then carry the one....and that comes out to.... 51,700! 🤯
I would rather pay the ticket bro!
It's not the cost of the tickets. It's keeping the license.
I take it back though, I forgot I went with Stinger’s new fiber optic laser jammers on the McLaren. Their wasn't enough room on the front of the car for the AL Priority heads.

There was an excellent thread about this a few years ago.
The most important thing with radar detectors is whether the installer locates the sensors in the right places. You could have the best detector on the market but if put your sensors in the wrong location it's essentially useless.
That's only if you use laser jammers. The majority of radar detectors these days have sensors in the detector itself.

Definitely also give a thumbs up to the Uniden R7. I had an Escort Redline for years with my Charger R/T, and it did great, but all the comparison reviews made me lean to Uniden this time with the R7 for the Redeye. A big plus for me was the distance considering all my driving is on highways. I didn't care so much about false positives, I would rather have a false positive instead of missing the alert entirely. I have been running it for about a year and half so far with no issues. I definitely do get false alerts in the 24.1xxx K band, mostly with Hondas/Acuras and some Chryslers, especially the Pacifica, but if I get a K alert in that range I immediately scan for Hondas etc in front of me. I have had the R7 alert me before cresting hills or bends on the highway many of times and saved my butt. The furthest I have had it start to detect a Ka band was around 2 miles, started sporadic, but it was a good heads up to slow it down lol.

The old Escort Redline wasn't that great. The 360c is much better and the 360c Redline is even better. The R7 gives so many damn false positives you never know what's real and you'll find yourself constantly paranoid. The 360c filters most of them out so when it goes off, it's real, you're not missing any detection, you're just not getting false detection. I've had both, rhe 360c smokes the R7 for reliable protection. The R7 is a poor man's 360c. It's good at detecting everything but I don't want to know about frequencies that aren't LEO. If you haven't tried a 360c or 360c Redline, you should, they're both a significant step up from the R7, I promise you.

I'm not sure if this would be a pro or a con for the R7.
There are seemingly hundreds of adjustments you can make in the menu to fine-tune the radar detector to your specific liking. For me it seems like it would take days to try to figure it out.
So when I did plug it in and go like we used to back in the day I did get a lot of false alerts.
Then I configured the R7 to the vortex radar recommended settings and has worked like a dream since.
I'm definitely not saying these settings will work for everybody however they have worked for me.

I guess a lot of it depends on the environment. I live in an extremely rural part of the state where the highways are pretty desolate, so I don't get false positives enough to annoy me or anything. I could definitely see it being an issue in a more urban area, so I am sure its not for everyone.

Yea, in your case it would be hard to beat the R7 for the money. The 360c has similar range as the R7 but costs more. The 360c Redline has the most range of any detector but costs even more.

Waze is a nice assist to a radar detector, unfortunately, its only as good as what people report so I wouldn't rely on it alone.
I’ve found it’s very good when traveling the highways. Hit or miss around town on streets. I’ve tossed my radar detector over 8 years ago when I found Waze. I just keep to the speed limit around town and haul ass on the freeways with waze active. Haven’t had a ticket in those 8 years.

The thing I liked most about the old gen V1's was the remote display and they offer one for the Gen2. It looks like Uniden does not offer a remote display. So does everybody mount the Unidens on windshield to the right of the rear view mirror then reach way over to push buttons? Or do you guys place it on the dash? On the left?
