I'm thinking about buying a tune since I'm coming up on 5 years and my warranty will be over. I was thinking I might pick up the stage kits from Direct Connection but I have no idea what the time frame will be to get one.

I'll be completely honest, I'm a newbie when it comes to tuning. I don't have a dyno tuner locally so I would be doing an email tune. My mods are pretty minimal so it should be pretty simplistic. I've heard this is a pretty great mod to do and I'm really interested.

Do I need to keep the tuner plugged into the car or can I load the tune then take it out?
Tuning should allow the MDS to be turned off permanently too right?
Do the email tuners do the transmission as well?
I know that I need to get an unlocked ECU, anything else I should know?

I appreciate help and advice from anyone.

Tuning should allow the MDS to be turned off permanently too right? Yes
Do the email tuners do the transmission as well? HPTuners w/ OSTDyno or HHP Racing (Diablosport) w/ HHP Custom Tune
I know that I need to get an unlocked ECU, anything else I should know? Either choose to buy a new PCM (more expensive) or swap/flash the current PCM (less expensive)

(1) Mopar Direct Connection (good for plug and play)
TBD

(2) DiabloSport (good for plug and play; can be custom-tuned by HHP Racing)
6.4L - i3 Device/PCM Swap/ 91/93 Canned Tune - $592.95 (i3 + PCM Swap, Dodge/Chrysler Car 2015+ V8 Platinum Gasoline and Diesel Tuning Systems | Diablosport)
6.4L - i3 Device/PCM/ 91/93 Canned Tune - $1054.95 (https://www.diablosport.com/shop/mo...hallenger.html?SID=0tpi5uofv8gtdc5fntfmpsm123)

(3) HPTuners w/ OSTDyno (good for plug and play; gives the end user a lot of tuning flexibity with the HP Tuner software)
HPTuner Device+2 credits - $399.98 (HP Tuners MPVI2 -)
PCM Unlock - $249 (send in) - $699 (new PCM) - (Unlocked PCMs Archives -)
Custom Tune $300-$1300 - (Email Tuning - Gen3 Hemi (non-Hellcat) -)

(4) HHP Racing (good for plug and play, uses Diablosport and offers custom email tuning)
i3 Device -$1033.95 i3 Device/PCM/ Diablosport (Dodge - Challenger - 2015+ SE, SXT, R/T, SRT - Tuning - High Horse Performance, Inc.)
Custom Tuning available (Dodge - Challenger - 2015+ SE, SXT, R/T, SRT - Tuning - High Horse Performance, Inc.)

For those with Hellcats, etc, the above also offer packages for those vehicles as well. Lots of best options out there but the ones above are those that come to mind.

Thanks, I was looking at the Trinity device just because of the minimal cost difference and since it's plug and play. HP tuners gets confusing for me with the credits and everything. I don't want to mess with it myself, I'd let a professional do it so it doesn't offer me anything that would be useful (I don't think). Looking at OST they seem quite a bit more expensive so I'm not sure if their tunes are better or what not but their tune is $800, plus the unlocked PCM, plus the device and credits.

I'll have to reach out to HHP and find out if they include trans tuning too. I've heard HHP mentioned before, Hemifever, Jay Greene, OST, and a few others.

I personally would not do a remote tune. Just doesn’t get better (and safer) than a chassis dyno tune. Where you at? Would you consider driving some distance?
I'm in Green Bay, WI. We don't have much of anything near us and I want to make sure whomever does it is experienced with Hemi engines. I don't want it to explode... yet lol.

Word of advice, dump diablo and go with HP Tuners. Yes it is more expensive, but in the end you'll be happier. This is coming from someone who has had to deal with diablosport customer service multiple times because my Trinity locked up and screwed up the PCM. I'll never go back to diablosport after those experiences.

Are you planning to use a performance shop to do the work? If so it may come down to what their tuner prefers to use. Tim Barth of barthtuning for example was strictly Diablo but now offers HP as well.
I was thinking about doing the work myself in my garage. I know it's a pita but I store my car for the winter so if it takes me a lot longer I don't really care. I was emailing with a local shop and to do headers/cam and tune install they wanted around 9k (this includes all parts). Seemed pretty high to me and at that point I'd look into selling my 392 and buying a cat.

Late model throttle does good work. They put a whipple on mine and several others that I know with good result. There is also Satera tuning not to far in hamshire Illinois and he has several 392 packages to choose from.

There is an excellent Hemi tuner with dyno in Waukesha called Late Model Throttle. they tuned 2 different Supercharged Gen 3 Hemis for me. they fixed some severe drive ability issues on the first car I took to them that one of the big name Hemi tuners could not fix.
Edit.. I missed where LMT was already mentioned in another post.

Satrua is who I contacted about the headers/cam/tune that was the 9k. I'm still waiting to hear feedback from them about tuning pricing. It felt high to me but I also do a majority of my own car work so I'm really unfamiliar with pricing.

I've heard of LMT but I've heard mixed reviews. I'll check out what they offer too. I appreciate it!

I appreciate the responses from everyone. I pulled the trigger on the HP Tuners setup with 6 credits. Sending in my PCM today. I am unfortunately not going to be getting it dyno tuned right now as the prices were pretty high at Satera for just basic mods. Once I get a cam and LTs I'll likely bring it there to get dyno tuned.

I'm just going with a Jay Greene tune for the time being, Satera was pretty expensive for basically no mods and a remote tune. Jay is a really well known tuner and his price is pretty reasonable ($550 for engine and trans tune with HPT) where the same thing from Satera was 1k. I'll gladly hit them up to get dyno tuned once I get my LTs and cam installed. Still not sure which cam I want to run with.

I really like the Diablo I3. For the newer cars I don't feel like the trinity is really needed, as your gauges show you everything already. With the I3 you plug it in, tune and then put it away.

Does it log the same parameters that the Platinum EX logs?

Don’t forget to dial in some chop on that new cam :giggle:
