I searched the site for anyone having trouble removing the caliper center support bolt; not the caliper bolts but no luck. I went to swap out the pads the other day, removed the 2 pins no issue, but the center support bolt would not budge. I pounded it with the nut partially out in the back, used a center punch too, no luck. I sprayed PB on it several times, let it soak overnight but still wouldn't budge. Anyone have this happen or any ideas on how to get this bolt out?

He means with a torch but you don’t need to do that. You need a impact. Or a breaker bar/cheater of sorts

Heat gun should work too. SOAK it with rust solvent as long as you can. Heat right on top of the caliper where it goes through. Tap front and back every now and then and it should break loose. Next time use ant-seize on it.

thanks Baabootoo, I will try the heat gun. I intially hesitated as I was concerned about the red caliper paint, but I'll have do it carefully and keep tapping either end after PBing it the night before and during. I had to reassemble it as I needed to drive the car but have a week off coming up. I'll try then.

No, no. Try this. Put the bolt back in about 1/2 way. It has a gap then between itself and the caliper. Bang it with a hammer and it will move the pin and free it up. Of course them remove the bolt and then you should be able to pull it.

Coming from someone who has changed my pads several dozen times now!

I wish. I tried that for a couple of days, sprayed PB on several time, let it sit. Then I put the bolt in 1/2 way and pounded the crap out of it. So much so that it damaged the screw head. It didn't even budge.

Well, you need to watch that though. You want to heat it but not burn it. Remember, those take a ton of heat w/o discoloring. The ONLY Brembo I discolored was on a 2011 Cadillac V, and the clear turned a little amber for a while. I have pounded these w/o any discoloring. Still pound on it too. Have any canned air? If you hold it upside down, it will super freeze the bolt which may be enough to shrink it some. You know like when a ring gear won't fit the carrier?

Got it, I'll try the freeze first, while pounding it. If that doesn't work, I'll go to the propane torch and pound it that way. Thanks.
