So. I bought My Redeye from Jake at Cummins (not in person) in December. I thought they were handling all of the California DMV paperwork and kept waiting for my plates. My Kentucky temporary plates expired 2-17. I recently found out the car, even though brand new, had to be smogged, verified, and some additional paperwork filled out. Turns out all Cummins did was send in the money. Finally got to the DMV today and registered the car. There were $940 in penalties. Turns out cars must be registered within 20 days of bringing the car into the state. It would have been nice if Cummins would have told me, but they probably are not knowledgeable of the requirements in all 50 states. My fault, I guess. Anyone in California, learn from this.

Precisely why most dealers wont sell to CA. No one wants to deal with that.

I purchased my 2018 ZL1 1LE camaro in Arizona last year. Saved about $8k over California prices. The dealership gave me the option of paying all California taxes and registration through them or to do it myself. I had them take care of everything. Only thing that I had to do was get the car smogged and DMV inspection. Seemed redundant that the car was from San Diego and never registered in Arizona, but it is what it is. Now my biggest problem is do I drive my ZLE or my Redeye!

You should have only been responsible for Smog, delta in taxes (CA taxes owed - KY taxes paid = CA taxes due (negative number does not mean a rebate ;)), and something like a $240 registration fee - oh plus any penalties (too bad you didn't take a LONG time to get into CA ;))

I purchased a GT500 in Phoenix and it was just like your experience. I had to have it smogged and ViN verified (inspection). I now remember they had me sign a California vehicle vessel form in Phoenix. They seem to be completely compatible with California's paperwork in Arizona.

Montana thing is a good idea, I am in Florida, We did away with that emission stuff some years back, Attornies brought a class actionn against the state and it held up, MOVE is a good one, Half of California has moved here in the last 2 years, I have a Demon, I guess I wont be moving there anytime soon, !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Koons would not sell to me. San Jose. In 09, I bought the R/T in Allentown. After delivery it had to be taken to DMV (Ellis Island) for a visual inspection. Hardest part was getting around the Taco truck. A money grab.

I bought a brand new C7 Corvette GS from McMulkin in New Hampshire in 2017 and had it shipped to me. It had a 50 STATE emissions sticker, but not a Calif sticker. Had to have it inspected and smog checked in order to register it. Since I did not pay sales tax in NH, I had to pay the CA sales tax. Came out about $5000 ahead vs buying locally.
What I don't understand is why the Redeye has a 49 state sticker if the car is exactly that same in CA.
