I own a challenger RT not a hellcat and enjoy browsing on this site seeing all of your guys sick cars. Hopefully one day I will own one if they’re not to hard to get. I am very grateful though to be able to own what I own at a young age. Anyways I’m starting (trade school) college next week at a few different ones around the Bay Area and I’m kind of nervous leaving my car parked out for 3-5 hours during some days of the week considering they are in a few rougher neighborhoods. I baby my car and love keeping it in immaculate condition and just very paranoid seeing theese younger hood rats target theese cars specifically. I mean they literally go around and know all the techniques to taking theese things for themselves as they don’t have jobs to work for what they want in life. With that being said since taking my car is the only option do you guys recommend any gps systems(car lock)etc and security systems for me. I know I don’t have a 70k hellcat but I think my car is definitely nice and one that could be targeted. Thanks in advance.

I do not have my SS yet but I understand your concern. I hope someone from here can guide you in the right direction. You should be proud of what you have earned and it's great that you have the car you do, it doesn't have to be a HC for you to be proud of it. I was extremely proud of my first vehicle and it was a plain jane 73' Chevy stepside truck that I rebuilt from a rusted hulk of a county work truck.

Congratulations on going to trade school they are awesome and can provide a very good life and huge earning potential!!
Can I ask what you are going to school for? I am a tool and die maker by trade.

GOOD LUCK.

Hey, The IGLA pin code security system is your best bet. There is only one shop in cali that does it and the only have 1 tech that installs it , as to keep the system safe. They also do a IGLA + compustar, which in turn they program the two systems to work together, so you have window detection, and force entry with the app for your phone and key. They are “west coast auto security”, I’m going to them in October, as that best fits my schedule. (I’m from the bay area too, but they are located in Yuba city) they said they can do everything in one day and takes 4-5 hours total.

I’m from a trade my family dad and uncle are both longtime stationary engineers with extensive knowledge in hvac industry. My other uncle is a chiller mechanic and they all make very good money and have great benefits most importantly. My whole life I’ve been surrounded by tools working on things around the house/ cars and something I have a passion for. For now I will be taking an electricity/ electrical technology curriculum that can lead into many fields in the trades. I’m thinking of getting into the hvac industry as well but not 100% sure. I have interest in becoming an electrician as well as elevator mechanics and more. The course I am taking is a very sought after course and glad I am able to take it right after high school.

I’ve learned that trades are a great route for anyone. No student debt and you get to make a great living. Going to a prestigious 40k a year out of state college wasn’t even in the question. You would be suprised how many kids go off to theese schools just to learn nothing and can’t find job from thier b.s. degree.

One solution is to get a beater car that will get ignored in bad areas.
Make sure it's mechanically sound and reliable, just fugly. lol

Beat up old pickup truck is good for that type of thing.

ETA: I've got an old 2004 F150 that runs well, and it will never get stolen. lol

One of THE most important defenses is an analog kill switch. I just had one installed that is connected to the starter itself (not the ignition button, which I've also seen work as well).
On my '22 JB Charger I have the following line of defense:
1) Kill switch
2) Compustar alarm w/drone (GPS tracking via my phone) and utilizes the factory keyfobs and doesn't affect the factory auto-start
3) Additional wired-to-my-battery extra GPS system (this is about $100/year for the phone app w/GPS tracking, phone alerts, etc...just like the drone that's installed with the extra alarm.
4) Air tags (2) hidden in the car and trackable via my phone
5) u-Connect Guardian service...currently using the free trial, which I think is a year...
6) Neutral strap blocker (simple install)
7) brake pedal lock, which I keep in the trunk if I ever feel like using it. Seems like if you really wanted to, though....just twist the thing to the side, even if it results in the pedal-arm being bent...it could likely still allow the usage of the pedal

...honestly though...the hidden killswitch, IMO is THE silver Bullet and gives me the most peace-of-mind

Hi! I'm new here, but I would like to help. Car security systems have many options, including GPS tracking and car locks. Some systems can even send alerts to your phone if there is any suspicious activity near your car like this one https://ohholding.com.ua/en. Additionally, it's always a good idea to park in well-lit areas and avoid leaving valuables in your car. Good luck with college and keeping your car safe!

Start with the RF Hub lockout (programming from the dealership, prevents programming any more keys), then add a hidden kill switch, and if you are really concerned, aftermarket alarm and tracker. Nice car BTW! My first challenger was a lowly SXT, but I loved it!

Not to dis your car, but aside from the kill switch recommendation, the next best way to keep your Challenger from getting stolen is to drive a 5.7L. They're not worth much to thieves and their rate of theft is like 1/5 that of a Hellcat's. Professional thieves make money by unloading them either at chop shops or commissions paid from organizations that end up chopping them for parts. The non-Hellcat parts are budget bin cheap in comparison, so you're not going to get many pros trying to lift 5.7s. An entire parted out 5.7 doesn't sell for as much as a single HC engine/trans crate combo.

I would bet that your chance of being carjacked is a lot higher in a 5.7 than your risk of having it stolen.
