Bummed :( Hellcat is sick after fuel rail replaced per recall.

Symptom: Engine cold. Start car. Fires up for 1 second, immediately sputters, almost dies; that lasts 2...3 seconds then it recovers, warms up and runs normal. (Doesn't do this after car's been on for a few minutes even from a cold start. No misses detected after this happens. No DTCs set (none found on my machine or Witech at dealer. Weird.

All injector and sensor connections checked and re-checked. Listened to injectors using stethoscope, all sound normal.

Fnkychkn suggested try to pressurize fuel system prior to start; that is next test. From there back to dealer. Unfortunately my original rail assy. with injectors already returned to FCA. So next steps after seeing if pressurizing fuel system for a few seconds to see what that shows will be to return to dealer, remove fuel rail assy, clean, inspect, re-install. Then replace (2nd time) and / or conduct fuel rail pressure test. And data log.

With no DTC's set could be a challenge. Of course right in front of show weekend. Planning to go to show then dig into it next week. Maybe sooner if I have time I will remove rail / injector assy. myself clean re-install and see if that does anything.

Suggestions ideas welcomed. (My Dodge tech is an ace he did install by book I was there I know he can find it but appreciate your thoughts; no one on this forum likes a sick kitty...)

my charger does this every morning. It sputters so bad 2-3 times almost sounds like it is going to shut off. If you press the start button twice as posted above without break on then you hear the fuel pump running to pressurize system and fixes the issue. Sounds crazy with exhaust cutouts open almost like the biggest cam ever lol.

Your sputter description sounds just like what my car is doing. It never did it once prior to the fuel line / rail / injector replacement. 1287 miles on car. Recall performed < 150 miles ago. Appreciate the feedback thanks. (And when will you post some revs or ??? with the dumps open? I'm installing NoWeeds but not until next week.)

inside car with cutouts open

i do still need to get video outside the car revving and doing a few flybys.

but yea i never got the fuel rail recall so they must of done mine before i got it delivered. But definitely noticed the rough idle on cold starts where it sounds like it is going to stall out then comes back up to rpm. Some days it will do it 3-4 times if my cutouts are open and it sounds like a wicked cam haha.

I would try pulling the fuel pump relay(72) (in the trunk), starting till it dies and replacing the relay. Start again till running...who knows? Unless somehow one of the injectors somehow got dirty or something or an o-ring isn't seated properly? Just a wild guess....

Air in rails? Do you have a pressure gauge with a releaf valve/drain hose?

You could see what the pressure is before you start and then hit the bleed into a container while running and see if there is air in the system.

Just got delivery of my hellcat challenger and experience the same issue on almost every start up after a few hours. In fact, she won't even fire until the engine has been cranking for 2-3 seconds. I hope this issue can be resolved by the fuel rail recall.

What happens if it sits for days is it worse?

However as per earlier recommendations on this forum, letting the going to accessories and then ignition allows the fuel pump to pressurize the system, then cranking her after a few seconds solves that problem pretty much.

Press the start button twice without depressing the clutch (manual transmission) I guess for the auto it would be without pressing the brake. Wait a few seconds and then press the clutch / brake and press the start button. Should fire up right away.

I am having the same sputter since having the recall done. It never happened before the recall. It sputters once and then fires up. Drives completely normal...only issue is the sputter on a cold start.

its not normal.. something is wrong.. they don't come new like that.. I hope they fix the new problems they created.. also hope one day my service dealer wins a wonka part allocation.. been over 5 weeks and 3000 miles.. id much rather drive my car without wondering if car is going to go up in flames every time I smell fuel !

I can't believe they don't have parts yet for you. Mine had parts overnight. Totally inexcusable.

im thinking of selling it.. if this is the type of service I can expect for a simple recall after buying the car, then maybe its best to get out now before something major happens!
