So my Cat threw a code P018D so I took it in and was told it's a stored code and they cleared it, 1 week later it's back so now I have a appointment to take it back. Anyone else throw this code? It's fuel injector sensor I think

I am getting the u0109 engine code. I didn’t mess with any fuses. I took it to the dealer didn’t see anything wrong cleared it came back today. Has anyone had experience with this code ?

U0109 Lost Communication with Fuel Pump Control Module (FPCM)

Generally if the engine is not manifesting any untoward behavior and if the CEL is not flashing the SOP is to clear the code and see if it comes back.

There is a lot of CAN bus message traffic -- I have a tool that can capture this and it can get/capture hundreds of messages per second. At 500,000 bits per second that's approx. 50,000 bytes per second and at IIRC 8 bytes per CAN message that's around 6250 message per second. Allowing for some time between the messages can still have hundreds of message flying by per second.

So one "lost" or "dropped" message may not be that big of a deal.

Is it safe to drive on P018D ? And will the code clear ? Or is it something serious wrong ?

My advice is to take the car to a qualified service/repair facility -- aka a dealer service department -- and get a professional tech's opinion as to what you should do next.

Now as I mentioned in another post in this thread as long as the engine is not manifesting untoward behavior (and other factors are considered, for instance what does the factory OBD2 diagnostic manual have to say on this matter) he might just advise you the code be cleared and that you then road test the car. If the CEL comes back on with the same error code then the cause needs looking into.

However, I'm not an auto tech so I'm not qualified to advise you if it is ok to drive the car.

Generally error codes will clear on their own. It takes a number of warm up cycles with the error condition no longer present. How many depends upon the error code. Just a few for some but more for others. My limited experience is ones regarding inefficient converter operation can take a good number of warm up cycles before these are cleared and the CEL goes dark. However, I seldom let the code clear on its own. I prefer to read the code and make a diagnosis and either clear the code myself then road test the car or in other cases turn this over to a professional auto tech.
