Is the A/C supposed to come on when you turn the Chiller on? This past Friday night we took the SS to the track to get some seat time and try out the Chiller feature. Every time we put the SS in track mode and turned on the Chiller feature air would come out of the vents and I was wondering if that is supposed to happen. I thought the Chiller feature was supposed to help cool the supercharger down while driving down the track and not have air coming out through the vents.

I don't know what to say, but I had the air off and when I hit the button to turn the Chiller on air came out of the vents. I apologize for saying the A/C came on because the A/C didn't actually turn on, but the fan did and air started coming through the vents.

The air that was coming from my vents wasn't hot at all like the air that my Redeye would put out.
Hi Dragon009... I can't quite figure out the comment about the air that your Redeye put out. I'm going to assume your redeye put out slightly cool air when the race chiller was activated. That is what my Redeye did also. First time I was in the staging lane when I hit the chiller and the fan started up blowing slightly cooled air out the vents. I punched a bunch of buttons trying to figure it out and get the fan shutoff until I finally shut the chiller off to be able to concentrate on making the pass. I haven't tried the chiller in the SS but the systems are the same so I expect to have the fan start w/ cool air flowing out the vents. I don't know too much about the refrigerant in these cars but I suspect the fan starts so that if any refrigerant flows past the divert valve into the cabin evaporator the airflow will ensure the evaporator wont freeze up the way a system low of refrigerant will. And since it's cool air i would say refrigerant does get by the divert valve. I also suspect that if you're already running the A/C full blast, when you hit the chiller button the difference in air temp will make you believe it's unbearable.

when I run the chiller, cool to semi-cool but not cold air comes out of the vents...completely normal and its not hot unbearable air...I've used it on 90+* days so there is defiantly some cooling of the air out of the vents

The air is a bonus. As long as the Chiller is on and blowing all that cold air into the SC, it’s all good.
just as clarification, the chiller system "chills" the coolant used in the IC so that the air leaving the SC entering the cylinders (Aircharge) is cooled (45 degrees colder??? never data logged it but I think that's what I remember seeing...it's a big difference!). Something else about the A/C, ever notice w/ it on and getting on the accelerator, the cabin air temp noticeably increases after several seconds? The compressor clutch will disengage on WOT (not sure if it is throttle voltage or accelerator pedal position signal that does it). It also disengages at WOT when the A/C is in chiller mode. That's one of the advantages of the ice bath system, it doesn't quit so long as it has ice and enough water. (I saw pics were someone here has installed one...they're nice.)

When I use chiller on my jailbreak with the air on the lowest setting etc, what comes out the vents isn’t cool at all so I usually just lock all vents so that not as much escapes. It still gets the job done of keeping my I/C temps low so no defects I guess.

Yep you don't have anything wrong. Try turning the fan/blower to OFF before you activate the chiller to see if there is any difference in the quantity of air flow. Seems to me there was less air than if the blower is on #1 but that may just be me. If there is than you might not have to mess w/ the vents and one less thing to do getting ready to make a pass.

Sorry if my comment about my Redeye was unclear. My Redeye was a '19 and I didn't have a specific button for the chiller like our SS do, but they did have track mode. Supposedly on the '19 Redeye's when you put the car in track mode you had an automatic feature like the chiller that was just built into the mode and you didn't have to push any buttons to turn it on. The air that came out of the vents when my "19 Redeye was in track mode was hot and almost unbearable to use so I was a little confused the first time I tried the chiller and cool air came out of the vents. I just wanted to make sure my chiller was working properly and I didn't do something wrong.

I definitely noticed that when you have the A/C on and hit the gas the air coming through the vents gets hotter until you let off the throttle. I was wondering if that was normal.

Makes perfect sense to me now. I had the '20 Redeye and did know that there was a change that allowed the chiller to be activated independent of Track Mode. So what year SS do you have?

Still haven’t used my chiller after a year lol
How's the saying go "use it or loose it." You're missing out on one of the slickest features of the car not to mention the performance losses if you are taking it to the track. Several people have noticed and commented that their 2nd and 3ed passes get quicker and attribute it to the chiller working better getting the IC temps down by hot lapping. When I first started racing the Redeye, I didn't use the chiller either for fear of dropping condensate on the track. After talking to several owners, I realized it was not a problem and started using it...ETs improved and may have been coincidence but did notice my 2ed passes were better than the 1st. As a precaution, Dodge put a small diaper under the chiller and pump area that you can see looking thru the screened area of the left front wheel well. When it gets a little dirty don't think something has gotten in there and pull it out:)
