Hi,
Got in Charger Hellcat yesterday, took and got inspection done, few minutes later got this code- P0521, so I did quick search, something with oil. Checked dipstick and doesn't show much on dipstick but engine is been fine running, no knocking. So drove home easily and did a another check still not much on dipstick after did a cool down and ran up to normal running temp, waited 5min, same. Do NOT want to hurt engine, never dealt with this before. Its a 2017. No puddles in garage, oil change scheduled for Saturday. Love some feedback.

How many miles on your HC?

How many miles on this oil change?

What brand and viscosity of oil do you run?

How do you drive?

Has oil disappeared from the dipstick before?

Is your dipstick a 6 qt or 7 qt dipstick? (Not a joke)

Might be a bad OP Sensor: "P0521 is an OBD2 diagnostic code that is triggered when your Dodge Charger detects that the value being sent from the oil pressure sensor is out of its normal operating range. It is typically caused by a bad oil pressure sensor or an issue with the oil system, and should be diagnosed and fixed right away."

At operating temp, what is your Oil Pressure on the Performance Page at idle and then at 2500 RPMs, at 4000 RPMs?

All engines burn a small amount of oil, sometimes more than a small amount.

If you haven't been checking the dipstick, you are really putting the engine at risk.

Years ago my daughter destroyed the engine in a car she was driving because she ignored
my reminders to check the oil and add oil when necessary. This is despite showing her how.
Hard lesson to be walking because she refused to check the oil.

They really should put something in the owners manual about checking the oil regularly.

Check oil first, make sure you also are using correct oil weight.
If that’s OK then get a oil pressure guage and check the engine oil pressure.
If pressure checks good replace faulty oil pressure sender.
If oil pressure is low then you have some internal engine problems. I’d probably drain the oil and replace the filter and test again. If still low you need to Either bring it to shop or troubleshoot yourself in regards to low engine oil pressure.

14k miles
We do the change per dealership and computer on board
We use what dealership uses for oil
It doesnt get driven hard
No never had this before
No clue on dipstick per quarts
At operating temp 50psi roughly on oil press guage, goes up with tapping pedal

Have never had to add, never had issue before, has not done anything like this for 7k miles. Thank you for the reminders, have not ever had issues like this. Have a trackhawk and havent had this issue like this and put many more miles on it. No knocking either.

The dipstick has a part number embossed on it. Google the part number to see if it's a 6 or 7 qt. You can also do a Search here for dipstick part number.

How low is the level on the dipstick?

On the dealer work order, how many quarts did they put in?

I bought my 2016 HC in Houston March of '21 and drove it back home to the south suburbs of Shitcago.

I stopped off at an Autozone on the way, bought two quarts and fully expected to have to add a little oil on the 1200 mile trip.
Kept checking and it never appeared to lose a drop the whole trip. I was very surprised. 22mpg too!

Got it home and still checked regularly, didn't need to add any at all last summer.

Then when I checked it this spring, it was down a little bit. Almost like it lost a little bit just sitting over the winter and starting
it without driving it a few times.

So anyway, the small oil usage on mine was a bit strange but nothing to be concerned about. I certainly don't wait for codes
or dash lights to appear before checking the oil though. I check it very regularly even if it hasn't used any oil lately.

Well, so much for my theory that careful break-in helped all six of ours not to use any oil.

And like you, I obviously still check the level regularly. But if a dealership had changed the oil (they won't, unless I end up in a wheelchair), I would check the oil before leaving, and then again once back home. And check the filter and drain plugs for correct tightness.

Okay, drain plug. A dealer probably wouldn't bother with draining the oil cooler, too.
