2019 Durango SRT with a coolant leak. Not a big leak but I can see coolant dripping from the bottom of the oil pan. 60K miles on it. Looking for ideas where to look and if something common. Thanks
To help locate the source of a coolant leak I use a hot pressure test. Rinse engine. Top up coolant with distilled water. Don't over fill but the more fluid in the cooling system the better.
Start engine. Turn off A/C. Then just drive the car around town in a law abiding way. You want to get the engine hot enough the radiator fans are triggered.
Back home raise RPMs to just over 1K and hold until the radiator fans come on. Shut off the engine. With the hood open look for leaks.
Using a bright flash light and being careful look for coolant leak sign. In one case with a car it proved to be the cap on the overflow tank that was venting pressure and water vapor under this hot pressure test condition. Another time it proved to be a bad plastic tank that would open up at a crack at its mold seam and seep coolant. But under the hot pressure test it gushed coolant and made its leak known right now.
Another time there was some signs of leakage from around the water pump.
But there can be a leak at the radiator or well anywhere in the cooling system. Hose connection. Hose. Heater core.
That you see coolant at the bottom of the oil pan suggests the leak is from some place on the engine. Depending upon where the water pump -- or T-stat housing is located -- it could be from the water pump or T-stat.
While a 2019 is a bit new to be manifesting a leaking hose or hose connection these need to be carefully looked at just to be sure there is no leak.
