After buying mine used 6 months ago, I wanted to change the filter before hitting Road America. Imagine my chagrin when I put the old filter in the box of the new one!

Here is what was in there, and I've always used the MO-899 on this and my 392. Thoughts?

The main thing you want your oil filter to do is....filter oil. lol '

- Some filters seem to be a bit lower quality than others, so I just make sure to buy a quality filter if I can. I have a NAPA platinum filter on mine right now....

Looks like what they put on the 5.7 trucks.

Yes they had the wrong filter on there, the 339 filter as far as Challenger and Charger goes, is only used with the 5.7L engine.

At one point in time most Chrysler products used the 090 filter. In 2008 they changed thread sizes, and the 4.7/5.7/6.1 went to the 899 filter. As stated above the MO-339 is used on the 5.7 engine. This was a change that was made in October of 2014 I believe. Hellcat has always used MO-899 or the white SRT filter, MO-041.

Thanks people, that's what I kind of figured. I emailed the dealership last week and am awaiting a response. PLUS, they over-torqued the crap out of the plug crushing the rubber gasket and marring the hex head. I'll need a new drain plug then.

I found a small filter on my 2017 when I did my first oil change. That's what happened when a GM dealership changes the oil on a Dodge.

I've been using the MO-899 filter for my oil changes.

I'll tell you, the service departments give dealerships more of a bad rep than a car sale...........at least in my opinion.

I had the exact opposite experience. I was going to change the oil myself until the parts guy that I know told me it would be better for warranty purposes to have the dealer do it,so they have a record of it. The old story about denying engine coverage applies. Anyway the service manager said to ask for a journeyman to do it, and I told him I had the filter and oil already. He said not a problem to use my stuff. I told the service writer to make sure the tech drained the oil cooler when he changes the oil. In about an hr they came and got me, said the oil & filter were changed along with draining the oil cooler. Then he tells me the tech drained my catch can. Wow. Then they give me the invoice for $35. No complaints here

Cause they want your money. If you keep your oil and filter purchase receipts, your good to go. Though I’ve blown an engine under warranty, was covered, and was never asked for any receipts at all. I was a bit disappointed I kept all the records for nothing lol,
