Dodge will never tune it out. they cant. warranty issues and emissions due to cats over temping and falling apart literally. OEM cats are NOT cheap. depending on what folks use the car for the average person who uses it for a garage queen will never ever notice it. Its only when pushed hard for extended periods like in the case of heavy track use.

However as many have said an aftermarket tune can turn it completely off which is the best alternative. I plan on going catless and turning it off.

I’m not going to worry about it for my use. I probably go WOT a few times on a highway and that’s it. I do plan to 1/4 mile track the car next year but I don’t think COT will be an issue with the time between runs.

people that are running it hard on a track would be the people with the issues.

after warranty is over if you really want to go all out tune it out and get off-road catless pipes. No worries then.

If you go catless without turning off COT, it makes it worse. The calculated values go off the charts without the restriction of the cats there and cot will kick in sooner. Reach out to Satera tuning they can explain.

What is COT?
catalytic converter over temp protection.

The hellcat like most cars calculates the cat temps from several variables. When those temps get too high, the car will start to pull back on itself several ways including running the fueling rich to send unburned fuel into the cats. That will cool them off, but also makes the car run like poop. Its all in an effort to protect the cats (emissions equipment) from damage thus making them less efficient. This has been made far more sensitive since the 21 cars came along, and now its gotten to the point where you are unable to use these cars they way they were intended.

The only way to disable this is for an aftermarket tuner to raise the temp thresholds to much higher temps than the car would ever achieve. This is a simple thing to do, but you need to have the ECM unlocked, bypass cable installed and have an aftermarket tune flashed with those and a few other tables changed.

The most recent cat temp thresholds are now set to 1701* in the factory tune. Once I had mine disabled/change, I would log my car and routinely see calculated temps approach 2000* at WOT in 4th, 5th and 6th gears at redline. This is where the car would normally get to if it wasnt being held down at much lower temps by going rich, dropping fuel pressure at the rail and opening the boost bypass valve. I have logs of all this behavior in action before and after it was tuned out.

With COT kicking in my car made 550hp to the rear wheels. With no COT when the car was cool it made same dyno same day 665hp to the rear wheels. Then with COT turned off and Satera's tune flashed on my car with nothing else but 93, I made 734rwhp. Thats INSANE how much more powerful a completely stock charger hellcat was with just a tune and all that crap turned off is.

My car was a 21 Charger HC - NOT REDEYE.

Now for those that know me and have read my posts over and over on this, I get that its getting old hearing about it. But this is an epidemic thats slowing taking hold as the newer cars are getting into hands and being ran hard/raced. There are several videos of guys seeing similar issues with cars dropping boost at WOT or falling on their faces or flashing the check engine light at WOT more and more. Both on other forums and on youtube.

I had a local buddy I sold my DRs to that has a 2022 Charger HC went to the same track as me and had the same issues with his car running high 11's at 115mph while falling on its face at the big end of the track. He also got tuned to turn that all off and went on the same DRs with only the tire, [email protected] Bone stock 22 HC charger. This is going to happen more and more. Jeremy Satera was the one who identified this with my situation and hes told me about dozens of newer HCs including his own that hes tuned that were having this problem. And picking up insane HP on the dyno when its disabled. Hes made videos on his youtube channel about it.

Is there any way to disable COT without tuning?
Nope. And like I said, removing the cats makes it worse. If you need a complete technical explaination as to why, call Jeremy Satera at Satera tuning during business hours. Hes a great guy, awesome tuner and knows this shit inside and out. Im not being paid by him, I dont even own a hellcat anymore. So this is completely me trying to help others. I faught with this from 11/2021 through april 22 when i gave up and sold my car. I had other issues as well, but the COT thing was a nightmare to solve without Jeremy.

Right on thank you. I am going catless next week and will likely have to get an unlocked ecm and tune next. Already have hp tuners mpvii but will likely need a couple credits.
If you have an 18+ car I think you will need the bypass cable too from HPT.

Hell yeah. Do you know how many credits are needed to tune?

I read somewhere 2 for pcm tune and 4 for tcm but don’t want to spread the wrong info

I have nowhere near the knowledge most of you do here. But here is an issue I have noticed in my '21 Redeye. 1/4 mile runs, I will get a CEL w/ U0415-00 implausible data received from ABS - stored. For whatever reason, this shows up under Transmission. But this code would just magically disappear after a key cycle or two of normal driving, usually by the time I get home. I couldn't help but wonder if the cats are getting heated and triggering this code? And when they cool down enough, it goes away? Dealer has no idea, but says I have nothing to worry about w/ that code. I have tried to duplicate it on the street but really can't.

Many local tracks have switched to 1/8 mile due to traction compound shortage so I have had more 1/8 mile runs lately. Interestingly enough, seems to be no CEL on the 1/8 mile pulls.

It just seems odd as my '16 HC never threw a code like that in 80+ passes and I have been using the same tire/wheel combo. And I had that car pre and post cat recall. The Redeye has done this from day 1. And I broke mine in 1500+ miles before hitting the track.

Im looking at the stock tune from my 21 charger HC and I have those code in HP Tuners, but they are not even checked and being available to display... Maybe thats a different thing vs your redeye challenger, but these are the codes you are seeing. If you had access to edit your stock tune, you "could" uncheck them from the MIL box next to those codes and you'd never see them again. But there is something wrong I'd suspect. That is not something that should happen and I doubt its COT related.

You might want to point the dealer at your rear axles. They fail quite frequently and there is an ABS tone ring installed on the axle, and its very sensitive to damage. Maybe yours is slightly cracked or chipped or damaged on one of the rear axles and its throwing a code at high speeds. I've seen others have issues with defective tone rings from axles, and they need to be replaced or the whole axle needs to be replaced. Have the dealer examine the rear axles and the tone rings for damage. If they find them to be bad, smack the shit out of them(the dealer).

Thanks for your input. It's something that definitely sounds more plausible than any information I have received from the dealer.

Hopefully in a year or two it will become less expensive and easier to adjust the Cot. Idk. Just hoping. That is total BS that guys who want to keep their warranties can’t get 100% out of these new Hellcats without Cot messing it up.
