Not sure if this is where I should post, so if not please move to the appropriate category

I have a 2022 Redeye, 4,500 miles, no mods to the electronics or motor

I have an issue where you push to start and the car just cranks and cranks, for what feels like 30 seconds or so, with a rhythmic backfiring and then stops. You push to start as soon as it stops cranking and it fires up fine.

Dealer looked at it and said they couldn't find anything wrong and unless I can replicate it they are unable to do anything about it.

Any thoughts?

Check for fuel pressure when cranking, I bet it’s not there. You or a friend have HP Tuners that You can do a data log of start up and post it for us members to see or just watch for fuel pressure and see if it is there or not while cranking.

Mine does this from time to time as well. It also happened to my buddies. Both of ours are 2019’s but I’ve read several people having a similar issue. The dealer replaced his battery and he hasn’t had it happen anymore. For mine, it only happens after I’ve driven the car a while and have started and stopped it a few times. It has happened enough that I think about it every time I crank the car. Lol. But it sounds to me like it isn’t a battery thing, even though it seems like it resolved the issue on my buddies car. Also, mine started doing it around 8k miles.

My 18' 707 car had this issue. I had a battery drain from a dash cam and it was impacting battery performance. Once corrected, car started fine. The reason that they may not replicate may be due to driving the car to them and charging the battery. Maybe try using a battery tender to maintain voltage and see if this changes.

I remember quite a few previous write-ups about this. Use the search.

Could also be the fuel pump. My '22 did this when they took it straight off the auto-transport, with just 9 miles on the car. They ordered a new fuel pump (there are 2) and it has been flawless ever since. They also mentioned that some of the fuel pumps were defective and the replacement pump was of a slightly revised design to remedy this.

Maybe it's a bad crank sensor?

Though it was common on the 5.2L and 5.9L mopars, but on these Hemi engines I have not heard of any crank sensor issues. Maybe I missed it along the way.
Plus, I think the sensor would only work or not work, not on and off, and I would hope that the CEL would give a code if it was randomly having issues.

I am not an installer, so I was just making a guess. You know weird things can happen.

Suggestion:
Put your left foot on the floor outside the car
Put your right foot on the brake.
Push button.
Let us know.
Is he gonna turn around and do the Hokey Pokey......sorry that is what came to mind.:)

My 2022 does the same thing. I have video evidence but the file is too large. Just cranks over normal but doesn't start. Always starts on try number 2. Currently about 512 miles. Started doing with about 120 miles on it. When it sits after running for say an hour it doesn't start. Cranks at normal speed. I did try once cycling the key to the run position 2 times and it started. It's gotta be a fuel pressure issue. Took to dealer and naturally it started there but only sat for 10 minutes or so. They told me to video it so I have on six occasions. Wish I could upload for you all but the files to large

Man...CALL DODGE and get a Case Manager assigned. The same thing happened to me and my '22. There's no way why you, with 500 miles on the thing, should be having this issue. Mine also had the same symptoms....not maintaining fuel pressure, not starting, etc. It was one of the fuel pumps.

The case manager was the one ensuring the repair was moving along, and even getting the replacement part highest priority (because they are VERY backordered) so it got to the dealer overnight FedEx. The case manager would email me every couple days to let me know the status, next steps, etc....they told me it was a defective fuel pump and that there was a revision made to the new replacement units they received (I have no way to verify if this is true). They replaced both of them...as well as, I think, the PCM...or some link to the PCM? (I forget about this one...it was told to me the morning I picked her up and I was kind of like "As long as you tell me it's 100% good to go, give me the keys already!") ....I haven't had a single issue, thankfully...but like I mentioned above, mine was having the same issue as soon as they rolled it off the auto-transport truck when it got to the dealer.

That's my next step. When the dealers plug their little computer in and see no codes they don't seem to wanna try and figure it out. Thanks, and I will contact dodge and get the ball rolling. I fear with the cooler weather coming that the issue may dissipate

I have a 2018 and mine did the same thing. Dealership had mine for 3 days. They couldn't find a definite problem. They did replace the ground strap on the engine and I haven't had a problem since then. Might be something to have checked.

I'm just wondering what happens when you try remote start?
