So with the crazy increase in car prices lately, I decided to look for a decent deal on leftover 2021 Scat Pack last month because the 2022 price increase is so large. I live in Montana and manual Scat Packs on the lot are nearly non existent so I knew I'd need to travel. My first choice of color was Sinamon Stick but not finding any within 1500 miles for a decent price, I ended up going to Iowa to buy a no option Indigo Blue Scat Pack for about $4K less than sticker and I was able to get the 0% financing for 72 months. I drive it back and I'm all proud of myself and love the car so much I end up thinking to myself "I really should sell a few of my old classic cars and try to buy another one of these with the 0% deal going on with the 2021's. Cars are getting insanely expensive and its only going to get worse probably and they are talking about no more V8s soon and manual transmissions are dwindling and seem like they may disappear soon too so why not". So low and behold, a few days later I'm looking on the websites and a Sinamon Stick Shaker Scat Pack with a manual transmission miraculously shows up on a dealer website in Vegas as being "In Transit". I call on it and they tell me its still available and that it was really late coming in because of all the shipping issues lately. I agree to pay sticker price since its the only one in that combination within 2000 miles of me and put $500 down to hold it. They called me when it arrived early last week and I hopped on a plane to Vegas last weekend to pick it up and do the paperwork for another 0% loan at 72 months. Here it is in Southern Utah on the drive up north to its new home (yes I know I need to take the yellow things off)

I go through Zion Park and Bryce Canyon Park and through the mountains near Yellowstone and luck out with great weather and road conditions the whole way. I get back home Tuesday night and things are good. Then today I get a call from the dealer and the guy asks if I bought another car recently - I tell him yes and remind him that we talked about that when I was down there and was telling him I wanted the same 0% deal for 72 months that I got on the Scat Pack I bought in Iowa. He then starts yelling at me claiming I should have told him that I financed through Chrysler and I angrily tell him again that I did and he says that I can't have two loans through Chrysler at the same time. Long story a little bit shorter, he says I need to sign a new loan at 6% interest rate, I tell him no way - we did the deal last week at 0%. He says he wants me to bring the car back to Vegas immediately or he will send a repo guy to my house and take it back next week and take the cost for that out of the $5000 I had put down. I tell him he's crazy and end the conversation. Another guy from the dealer calls me up and immediately starts screaming at me for being such a liar and that the repo guy will be here on Monday. This seems unbelievable - Thoughts on what I should do? Thanks

I have never heard of a rule that someone cant have more than 1 car lone with Chrysler, maybe the 0% is a special offer for “new buyers” and you are technically not a new buyer if you already have a loan. If thats the case its a dealer mistake as they should have seen your loans on your credit app even if you didnt tell them.

I assume you have all your loan paperwork, and dealer paperwork, read the terms of the loan you signed. Then Call Chrysler financial and find out what the deal is.

Be litigious like they are trying to be. Is their contract binding? Is it legal? Was it signed under duress? Is their mistake your fault? Certainly not. So, I'm not one to be bullied, but I've also lost a career over it so, honesty isn't always the best policy. Absolute best of luck to you and please keep us updated.

I've never heard of the 0% being for "new buyers" only, but the OP's scenario seems really fishy/odd

As for the 1st loan, it probably hadn't hit his credit report yet or shown up yet.

I'm really wondering why that dealer would be freaking out though. The scare tactics of repo-ing it too....that's VERY odd and very scummy/low life kind of stuff right there.

I wouldn't just hand the car back over to them though. I'd call Chrysler Financial and see what the deal is first.

Every story I've read about financing falling through or for whatever reason the dealer says the car is not financed meaning they are not getting their money and you need to bring the car back, they are serious. You need to bring the car back or they can and will come get it. As far as them tacking on this cost I don't know, read the fine print very carefully as far as the financing agreement that you signed.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I just called Chrysler Financial and they told me that a person is NOT limited to only one loan with them. The car is in a locked garage. Doing some googling, I learned that a repo guy is not allowed to break into your garage to get it but he can basically take it from anywhere else. I really hope it doesn't come to that. I'm fortunate in the fact that I have other vehicles to use until this get straightened out. I find it hard to believe that you can do all the paperwork to buy a car, drive it away, travel a 1000 miles back home and be told a week later that you have to do a different loan or bring it back or have it repossessed. I was a little leery of buying a car from a Vegas dealer before I went - now I know why.

Thanks Slidd - from following this forum for years I know that you are very knowledgeable. The car would have about 2500 miles by the time I get back to Vegas. I imagine they would tell me that the car is worth $5000 less because of that and not refund my down payment money. If I let them repossess it, I imagine they will tell me that cost $5000 and not refund my down payment money.

Did you ask Chrysler Financial about the status of the referenced loan? Has it funded? Has it been rejected? If the loan cannot be approved, I think the dealer has the right to unwind the seal. As such, there is no deal and no repossession. Just arrange a time for them to come get it and hand them the keys. How can they repossess something you don't own as the deal never completed? If the loan never funds, it will never appear on your credit history at all, let alone as a repossession. I'm not an attorney, BTW. Call your state's attorney general's office and the same for Nevada for confirmation.

I've never heard that they can come after you for the difference in value, that would be a new one. But the cost of any repo, very possible. Good luck.

Yes - you are right - the first Scat Pack loan wasn't on the credit report (unknown to me at the time) - the dealer seems to be claiming this amounts to me "not telling them" about the loan when in fact we discussed this loan during the course of the transaction and me telling them that I wanted the same 0% for 72 months that I got on the one I bought in Iowa last month.

I only asked if two loans are possible though them and they said "YES". As it stands now, the dealer is saying I don't have a loan because two Chrysler loans are not allowed (which contradicts what Chrysler Financial just told me). I would let them come take it back and told them that but said I wanted my $5000 down payment refunded first. I was then yelled at, called a liar and told that I don't dictate the terms of repossession. Naturally, this infuriated me and I let them know it.

Wow! That reminds me of a story years ago where a guy financed a car. The dealer made a mistake on the price (lost money) and called the guy to come back and redo the deal. He said no way, the dealer reported the car stolen with no other details. His wife is driving the car a few days later and gets pulled over by multiple police cars at gun point. Treated like a dangerous thug and scared to death. If Chrysler told you that you can finance more than one at the zero percent, I would tell them what the dealer is trying to do. That may end it there. Check with an attorney to be safe. Good luck. Please let us know what happens and post it.

Check their contract….it should say that Nevada law prevails…. Get an attorney in Nevada that is familiar with repo / dealership laws should the loan not be funded….
