So I picked up my car yesterday. The salesman brings me into some other guy who tries to sell me extra stuff.

Are these worth it?

1. Ceramic coating for $1100
2. Extended warranty for $2300

What do you think, I declined them.

Suggest drilling down on the Warranty and what's covered and for how long. There are many here who wished they had an extended warranty when the factory ran out. Depending on the Warranty, this is a great price but again, details :)

People spend way more than $2,300 on other stuff every year and think nothing of it with no return. If the terms are good, I'd do it.

You can bet the kids' lunch money that anything the dealer adds has a high mark up.

While ceramic coating may offer some protection you pay dearly for it. But in some cases you can negotiate a lower price. With a high mark up comes with it some room for the dealer to offer a discount. Maybe.

As for an extended warranty, if it is offered by/backed by Dodge that's best. Aftermarket/3rd party extended warranties I'd stay clear of. You have to read the fine print and see what the coverage period is and what you have to do to keep the coverage in effect. Also, I was told to speak to the techs where one will have the car serviced and repaired if there is a warranty claim to get an idea of what they think of the extended warranty. The word I get is a warranty company is going to ask a lot of questions of the tech about the car and the issue to try to find some reason to deny the claim. I can see the warranty company's point of view. But from the tech you want to hear that if there are no real reasons to deny the claim the claim is honored. But as I touched upon above you need to read the fine print to see what's covered and what you have to do to keep the warranty in effect and what you need to avoid in order to avoid possibly having a warranty claim denied.

If you think you can get an extended warranty and mod the heck out of the car then when it all goes tits up get the warranty company to bail you out you gotta another think coming.

Often (always?) an extended warranty overlaps the new car warranty, so if you buy a 6 year extended warranty the 1st 3 years it overlaps the new car warranty so you only get really 3 years for the money.

Generally what I do is just skip the extended warranty and save the cost of it. I have this stashed away -- so to speak -- so if something comes up after the warranty has expired I have the money to pay for it out of pocket.

Goes to show what I know about ceramic coating...........prices are all over the place
What makes ceramic prices tricky is that they come with different applications (# of coats applied) and durability (the amount of years they are warranted for), on top of what they will charge you for labor. As cheap as $100 up to 2500+
I think still best to find a shop on your own and compare prices.

When I purchase a new car I'm there to buy a car and only the car not a ton of added crap that they try and sell you any more. I will get GAP protection if I'm financing but that's it. When I bought my Hellcat I almost walked out on the deal. The finance guy was so hard sell on all that stuff he must be making a large commission off of it. There was as whole page of junk he was trying to sell.

That’s because they do make a commission. It’s funny when I was young and broke the finance guys would always try and talk me out of every nickel I had.

Once I got older and well off they all briefly ask and move on knowing im not falling for all the extra nonsense.

You usually have to quit giving all your money away to get there.

You have a 3/36k bumper2bumper and a 5/60 powertrain. If your car survives that, and you treat it like a precious puppy, the extended is unlikely to be a benefit. Like Rock said, they will look to disqualify you for ANY mod, any reason, nothing personal, just business. Many 3rd party warranties go out of business before you get past the Dodge warranty.

Just be nice to your baby and you will be fine. This is a time to be happy, don’t let the leaches upset you!

I would decline. A lot of dealerships have the final sales push (One last profit chance)

I would not trust a dealership for ceramic coating. Especially for $1100.

Where you live makes a difference in price, but in Oklahoma, I just had my entire car (paint, glass, lights, wheels, calipers) coated with Nasiol NL272 for $850. That included wash, clay bar, 2 step paint correction, and the coating.

Do research on any company you choose because the prep work will make or break how the coating both looks and performs. More money does not always equal better service or product.

I declined everything when I bought my 2020 HC. The guy was really pissed, I mean really pissed. I guess he is not used to people telling him "no".
All sweet and lovey-dovey until I refused the extended warrantees. It was actually kind of funny.

Varooom

same here both my 2015 and 2019 and the sales man had the same response. they must get a cut of those "services"

I purchased a corvette in 2005 back when they would come 12 off list which you can forget these days and the salesmen in charge of the extended warranty kept on pushing till I had to go into rude mode. I recall him saying I was they only one he's seen here buy a new corvette and not get a extended warranty...I laughed and said "Well put my damn picture on the wall"

LMAO!!! I wish I was a fly on the wall for that discussion!

Yeah, the pressure to buy crap is so high in that room it’s ridiculous. Counter with a known good competitor’s price and they almost always say I can’t meet that. I do that with warranties all the time. I do allow them to finance me so they can make a little money on their end. Seems to be a win win.
