I got this from the person who sold me my Redeye. These markups are insane. I think the dealers are purchasing the black ghost and king Daytonas to mark them up even higher. I went to the dealership today and they told me they aren’t selling any until they hit the dealership floor. This is going to be insane because someone is crazy enough to pay this silly markup price. I’m glad I purchased my redeye when the price was still reasonable!!!

Patience is the key, wait 1.5-2 years when the hype is over and everything will normalize. In 3-5 years there will be lots of “investors” who paid many years of reg, taxes, maintenance, insu and storage on all these “$pecial Edition$” and wondering why they haven’t made any $. Lots of them will become uncomfortable with the “investment” and look for an exit on these very low mileage “collectors”.

No f’in way I would buy at MSRP or above. Smart people would wait. And personally, I have no interest in “collecting” anything, I am a consumer!

I called one of one of my local dealerships today as they have a king Daytona allocation. He made a point of telling me they were taking care of previous customers first. I told him I bought a 21 TRX from them and he verified it in his system. He explained he has fielded well over 30 calls today and was much friendlier after that. He put me on his list and said he would let me know what was available because I also said I was interested in the jailbreak redeye and the DDHC. This dealership does not historically charge markup. I have a 22 hellcat charger and my TRX. I am perfectly fine with my charger as is. Keeping my truck regardless. I might pull the trigger on a redeye or DDHC if one presented itself at MSRP. But I refuse to play the game or pay crazy prices. I am not calling anyone else.

It’s crazy I got all of the options on my Redeye excluding the sunroof with a total of $93,000 I still felt robbed. I feel bad for anyone who’s getting a v8 from dodge in 2023 it’s going to be ridiculous. The only thing interesting to see is the 5.7 manual that’s been floating around in the rumor mill!

I too am happy I decided to trade my 21 HC for a 22 HC Redeye a few weeks ago , if I didn‘t I wouldn’t have been able to afford a 23…

I remember it well. It think it was called "The Black Ghost 1" if I recall correctly  :p?

Back then the idiotic dealers were adding insane ADMs on them in 1978. And people were paying them! I laugh whenever I see another one of these decal cars pop up with zero miles but completely destroyed and moldy from improper storage after 44 years. And they rarely bring any kind of collector price unless it is a zero mile, prefect condition L82 4-speed version. The rest go for around $20K, basically what they sold for new.
Now what would $20k invested in the S&P 500, for 44 years bring you today?

In Jan 82 it was about 117.

Friday close was 3901.

End of last year it peaked over 4800.

So 33x.

Cars are very rarely a better investment than the market. But there are always aberrations, like right now!

Tell me about it.

I bought a real 1971 HemiCuda Convertible in 1986 for $24,000. Pulled it out of a garage in a Wisconsin blizzard in January 1986.

Tire Vehicle Wheel Car Hood

One of 7 (the yellow and white one currently in "The Brother's Collection" out west). Sold it a year later after I finished the restoration for...wait for it...$54,000. Thought I was a financial genius because I doubled my money. It's currently worth over $4,000,000. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing the restoration I did, has lasted all these years and the car has not been touched since I finished it. :p
