Local Dodge dealership offered me $45,000 for my 2017 Challenger Hellcat with 24,850 on odometer. Carfax says it was involved in a minor collision in 2017. I purchased it in May 2018 and it's now well maintained and in very good condition. I think the offer is a lowball. Any thoughts out there?

Sounds low but given there is a reported accident some dealers give low offers since anyone that looks at the carfax will see reported accident and run away unfortunately even if it was minor and properly repaired its a tainted vehicle history.

Sounds right. The car was wrecked. It’s like a hot chick with AIDS.

Responses were helpful. As "Germansheperd"member says my beloved Octane Red HC has been permanently marked by Carfax with the Scarlet Letter A. I was aware the Carfax history when I purchased the 11 month old Dodge below market price for $56,000. Now it has come back to bite me. I have been informed the previous owner hit a parked car !
By the way is it true a significant number of Hellcats never make it home from the new car dealership without a sad incident ?

It’s about $4k low. without the fender bender it’s prob a low 50’s car with the miles it has.

How do you figure? What should a dealer RETAIL a 5 year old Hellcat with an accident for? How much would you pay for a 5 year old Hellcat with an accident?
I agree with low 50’s- as a retail. I find them all day long perfect car faxes mileage in the teens for mid to upper 50s retail.
At 45 the dealer runs it through service and detail, now he owns it for 46, then the used car dept packs it 1-1500- maybe they put some type of warranty on it? Now it goes on the lot with a cost of 47,500. Price it at 52,500 and see where you land in between After everyone and their brother who looks at it because it is cheaper sees it has a wreck on the car fax and that battle comes up every time.
That’s how it works in the real world.

OP never said wrecked. Said minor accident. There’s a difference. Im a used car dealer. I see these cars at the wholesale level at the wholesale weekly auctions. That's roughly what dealers are paying. Break it down however you like. Im doing business in the real world and not guessing. Not saying I agree with it, just saying dealers are paying stupid money for these right now.

I could tell a long time ago you are/were in the business. I agree with said dealer because of the car’s history- blemish, wreck, accident its on the car fax now. Bump a G to make a deal probably. They are taking it conservative to flip the trade. I get it.
Can you catch people off guard at put it at full tilt boogie? Possibly you catch that uninformed buyer to do a straw purchase with their grandmother.
Take it in right, retail it right and sell cars.

Agreed. I myself wouldnt pay what these guys are paying at auction. I’d offer what this dealer offered. The logic of investing 50k just to make 5k makes zero sense to me anyway. Can make triple that with three or four cheaper cars with the same 45-50k. While I love Hellcats I wouldnt want to tie up 50k with a smaller return just to be a bigshot selling them. Unless I had more money than I do lol.

Not in the eye of the prospective buyer. Bottom line is that however you choose to look at it, it’s not factory fresh and has required some work.

Yep. Was almost irrelevant back in Jan when this thread started though. Hellcats were on fire at the auctions and actually still are. Dealers are paying crazy money and are obviously still making a profit so someone is buying. Many buyers dont even check Carfax reports. Unless it's a branded title the dealer doesn't have to disclose minor accidents and they take full advantage of that. Hell many dealers dont even check either. The auctions are required to disclose branded titles but not minor accidents so that could easily slip by a dealer who is relying on auction disclosures only and they end up paying too much. A lot goes on.
