I noticed my car was overheating. It got up to 230° And once I noticed that I put it in neutral and let the air cool my car down a little bit. I had my car towed to the dealership for some work. They informed me that my water pump is out. After they fix the water pump they drove my car and said it was still overheating. The dealership said that they were bringing my car in again to diagnose at a later time. The next day I text to Dealership and they informed me that a technician took the car out again to make sure it was overheating. Some time went by and they informed me that the head gasket is blown. I feel like they drove my car a couple more times than necessary and they caused that damage. I could just see someone 10 miles away from the dealership and my car is overheating and they are worried about getting back so they don’t stop. I need advice!! Car is a 19 hellcat challenger with 20,000 miles

This was under warranty?
If it’s not I’d talk to the service manager and genera manager and have them cover the cost of that head gasket. If no dice keep elevating.

To be fair I’m not sure you can win that fight. There’s no way you can prove that you yourself didnt smoke the head gasket. They have no way of knowing how long or short you drove it while overheating. While you probably didnt cause it they have no way to know. Car came in with a bad pump and had already overheated before arriving. If it were my shop I wouldve had them pressure test the system before letting it go out on the road for testing to cover our asses but I’m not sure that will matter in the end.

A few weeks ago I had my daily driver SUV in for service to replace an exhaust temperature sensor. After I picked it up I noticed my AC blower fan wouldn't go above the 3rd setting. I immediately made the correlation that the service center had screwed up my blower motor somehow related to the service that was performed. But after I researched it online I found out that the SUV's ECU will automatically reduce nonessentials (including the blower fan) to preserve a discharging battery. Sure enough, my car still had it's 10 year old OEM battery. Two days later my diagnostic control display started warning me of a discharging battery.

Your head-gasket may already have been blown when you took your cat in to address the overheating issue. You indicate you didn't realize the water pump was out until your service center diagnosed it and repaired it. You'll drive yourself crazy with all of the what-if scenarios you won't be able to prove, other than a natural connect-the-dots inclination that your car only had an overheating issue when you started out..

Ok, so it is at the dealership getting fixed? You "think" they caused the leaking head gasket then?

A blown head gasket will over-pressurize the cooling system faster than the radiator cap can vent it. That excess pressure will pop radiators, split header tanks, pop heater cores, AND blow out the water pump shaft seal. I've seen all those happen over the years. So the dealer sees a bad water pump and replaces it, unaware that its seal let go from the excess pressure. Head gaskets don't get better they get worse, really quickly. And then that problem becomes evident.

So, what was the resolution to your main issue? Did they replace the headgasket? Covered under warranty or not?

AND.........in what world is 230 overheating???????? Overheating to me is boiling the coolant. Isn't "normal" operating temp nowadays 190-220? Don't our second fans go on at 230 or so?
