deionized water system for car washing

I am wondering if anyone uses a deionized water system for car washing for spot and if so which one. I know about the CR spotless one and the Simple Chuck. Has anyone made a home made one that works good I have seen a few DIY ones online and they do not look too hard to make its just getting the right filters and fill it looks like. I have hard water and my Black car gets spots like you would not believe even if I dry it quick.

Being a black cat as well, the water spots were killing me. It's my DD so I wash it often. I picked up After Wash from Chemical Guys and so far, LOVE IT! No more water spots! I use a blower to remove 90% of the water and few sprays of After Wash per panel and she's all done.

I built my own from Amazon, I use a 2 cartridge system, one for sediment cartridge and one with a DI cartridge. I purchased brass connectors from home depot and put quick connects on along with a feeder hose from my tap. I've used it 2 or 3 times already! No spots, a small drop in water pressure but nothing major. I wash and rinse the whole car, then follow with the cartridge setup.

I use a lot of their product already I will have to give this a try. Nothing worse then trying to get the car all shined up and having those damn spots on the shiny black cat. Thanks for the info

Did the exact same thing. The quick disconnects let me wash like normal, and then I plumb the double filter setup in (takes 30 seconds) and I wash over the car with spot-free water.

I am going to have to look that its not a lot of stuff to put together and it $400 less then the CR unit I am looking at. Thanks for the info

We use industrial DI filters at work in our plating shop. A couple of years ago they delivery guy hooked me up with a small single unit about 10" in diameter and about 5' tall. I have been using it for about three years now on two vehicles, (washing about once a month or two). It is still making DI water.

check local companies for industrial water treatments. I got mine for free but I know that our three tank setup for work is about 350 bucks and usually lasts between 3,000 and 5,000 gallons. Bad thing is they take up a lot of real estate. Each tank is 5' tall and 12" diameter.

Can you post a pic of the set up. I looked the stuff up and it looks very reasonable to build it. The one part is out of stock by I am sure I can find it somewhere.

The feeder hose goes to my wall faucet, other quick connect goes to hose.

I like that set up how it is all together, is the white filter a sediment filter and the black one a filter with the resin around it. Thanks for the pic

That's correct, the black is color changing resin so that is why I went with clear canisters. The DI was a 3 pack so I should be set for a while.

Mine is setup the exact same but Is a single big blue DI cartridge.

I'm thinking of picking up another big blue and 2 smaller doubles so I can not only add 2 additional stages but also run two 3 stage rigs in parallel to double the flow capacity. Otherwise your effective flow rate for optimal treatment is about 1gpm and even my Walmart electric pressure washer would outflow it.

Here's my setup. I went Sediment filter first and then Resin second. I believe that's the proper flow path. Please correct me if I'm "hosing myself" with that method

The only thing I've found is that I can't go full-open on my washer nozzle or I get air since the filters can't catch up to the flow rate of my nozzle. I'll be changing it to an adjustable nozzle with a shower or mist setting and see if that helps. The Flexzilla hoses are a godsend btw. They're crazy expensive for their air hoses, but for the 3 footer and 7 footer I got (for off the spigot), they're totally worth it imo.

It looks reversed in that pic ?? I assume the inlet has the short hose attached, if so you have the media 1st then the filter & it needs to be the other way (filter, then media). Using a regular nozzle with this set-up will cause you to use media at an alarming rate !! You either need the pressure washer or (at a minimum) a nozzle with a fanned or flat spray setting.

The non-hosed end is the inlet. I have a 7 footer that comes off the spigot into my regular hose reel. I disconnect from the reel side, plug into the female side, and then use the 3 footer back into the reel. I appreciate the link to the nozzle. I'll check it out!

You should be good! I use the "rain" setting on my nozzle, i've not tried any of the other settings, just my preference for 99% of my car washing so I don't know if it would outflow the setup. Just need to shed the water off the car.
