So I have an unlocked PCM and Trinity tuner. Question is can I pull the stock tune from the stock locked PCM and save it prior to swapping to the unlocked PCM?

I do know you can read the tune and you can data log a locked PCM. If you think about it, you have to save a copy of your original tune before you send your PCM in to be unlocked. So it absolutely has to be possible.

Without sounding too lazy would anybody happen to know the part number of the HP tuner's smart cable that I would need to buy 2 data log my stock PCM.

I honestly would not use it. It's too hard to install in a Challenger (plugs in behind the radio). Plus this permanently unlocks the normal diagnostic link connector. Not something I necessarily want to do. Not sure if you even need one in a 2017? I use Z-Automotive double bypass. It gives you a second, remote connection to plug your device into and then you do not have the cable draped over the steering coulmn etc. It can be installed in the Pass side Kick panel or in the trunk. I installed mine in the trunk and extended the power and ground wires so I could run it forward into the back seat area (rear seat delete).

Correct all I need is the MPVI 2 and the latest BETA version installed on my laptop Im using to be able to data log my locked 2017 HC Challenger PCM. Smart access cable isn't needed until the 2018+ Dodge vehicles.

View attachment 579460 Sad I am an IT PM and this scares me... What do I need other than this on a super stock and a lap top
On a 21 Super Stock you can data log using the HP Tuners software and MVPI2 tool. Download the BETA version and the drivers and install them. You also need a Security Gateway Bypass. See above the info on the Zautomotive double bypass. You MUST have this.

If you want to TUNE your car you also need to buy credits and send your PCM in to be unlocked. If tuning the PCM and TCM you need 6 credits at around $300 total. Best to decide this now because the PCM Unlock service might be free with the Credit purchase. Tuning the TCM is more help so I would just do both and you are set.

If someone lived close and came to my house or paid for my Gas I would give them a lesson. There are a few things that you need to understand that might cause a hiccup. Sorry, I am out in the boondocks now (Kingman AZ).

So plugged it into the factory PCM and hit tune to pull the stock tune. And it began to write with no other info or notice. Now the car won’t start….

It’s saying it’s trying to write the factory tune. This is the stock PCM so it should have ID’d it was locked and not even started. I didn’t even tell it to write anything, just attempted to get to the page to pull the stock tune

It kept wanting me to reload the “factory” load since it failed on the stock pcm. It wouldn’t let me do anything else. I caved and let it do it on the unlocked pcm. I’m not sure which load it sent? Maybe it did pull one from the stock PCM. When it finished and a lot of prayers later it actually started right up on the unlocked pcm. It was almost as if the tuner was trying to rewrite the stock tune back to my stock PCM. I don’t know how it would have pulled it because it never had me do anything it just started doing it’s own damn thing. Does anyone have a stock M6 2015 HC tune they could send me for a Diablo or maybe a licensed tuner out there I could send the “stock” file to to make sure it checks out as actually stock?

So talked to Josh, what I’ve learned:
Don’t plug into the factory PCM with the tuner and touch tune, if the calibration isn’t up to date from Dodge it will try and force it to the locked PCM

did you get it to work or do you need to send your unlocked PCM to some one...

Also any way a security gateway can void a warranty?

separate questions pointed separate ways LOL

Yeah the unlocked PCM worked good. May be able to actually still use the stock one too if I reinstall it it should default to the last calibration

How would someone have PCM unlock service done free? This is something I had been planning to do soon.
