Diablosport suspension controller

What does everyone think of this? I'm curious as to whether or not this decreases shock life more than normal, what the cost of the controller will be & actual proof of handling improvement. Saw their video & all it showed was cars launching. Nothing with street driving or road course...

Nice feedback. Curious on the mode issue, I saw that in one other car but never gave it time to fix itself. The car was something of a mix with a 16 pcm and a 15 bcm or some odd combo and I assumed that was causing the issue. We tried 2 boxes in that car and both worked fine in other vehicles. Are all of your modules in original order, no weird swaps, etc?
It is a 2015 built at the end of the production year so it could be something like that.
The question I have is whether the damper settings are really stiffer than Track mode already is. I get that they are now more independent corner to corner and that they are calibrated to be more progressive, so on the street it feels more compliant until you push it hard. But . . . does it help turn in response or limit body roll vs. Track mode on a smooth road course?
Definitely helps turn in and limit body roll in turns for all modes.

A way to describe it while in track mode:
  • for OEM, when going over bumps, it seemed like all 4 corners stayed in stiff setting
  • for DSC/Diablo, when going over bumps, each corner independently adjusted to smooth out the corner

On a bumpy on ramp, I noticed I was able to accelerate more smoothly and quickly while in track mode instead of getting throttle surges while going over the bumps. I could see this as a benefit on the track as the dampers adjust while going over rumble stripes.

Ok as long as you haven’t done any module swapping or reprogramming it should be fine. Will dig into it.

Thanks

Ordered the DS version for a 21 Charger Redeye. Plan is to run the DSC tune file as I am more of a canyon guy.
Will post my impressions up when I get it in and installed.

I also have a suspension crazy friend who designed his own sus. and simulated it before building and installing so I may do a backup and let him go to town on the options/parameters......

I thought we could buy the Diablo unit (CHeaper) & then simply upload DSC maps to it. No???

I have 0 clue lmao.

I did buy the Diablo sport one (DS) and plan on using the DSC map

Interesting find about that. I got a "Device is Not Responding Correctly" when trying to read the device several times and resetting the board.

I talked with Jeremy at DSC this morning and he said DiabloSport probably programmed the device to do read/writes up to 3 times then it locks out. [edit] Word back from DiabloSport is that they don't so this is likely a single troubleshooting issue; more to follow. However, everything seems to still work ok when driving though. This seems to be the reason why DiabloSport version is less expensive and why the DSC version is more expensive. So... I think DiabloSport should mention that on their product information; the device is non-tunable after a certain period of read/writes.

In one case, the lock out is a blessing since it provides some security to the device. On the other, you loose customization.

DiabloSport - $995 (untunable)
DSC Sport - $1378 (tunable) inc MD Sales tax

I sent a note to DiabloSport asking for clarification but this is a bummer if you can't fully customize the product or at least pay an unlocking fee to be able to fully tune the device.

This is valauble information, will be interesting to see what DS's reply is.. I have not had a chance to test mine out much yet, looking forward to doing so in April.

That would be a Diablo deal breaker for me if true.

Shot a note to @MKL_DS so we'll see what they say.

Excellent info. If & when I do buy it, I will go with DSC then if Diablo says 3 times & done. I am looking for better handling. I don't race it so no care on 60' times

Well, got word back from DiabloSport and the boxes are the same. This is likely a single troubleshooting issue that I'm having. More to follow and I'll edit my other post.

I'd be curious if someone else runs into a similar "lock out" tuning issue. It was explained again today by DSC that this is likely the case with the DiabloSport module; that it does become untunable after several read/writes. After talking with DiabloSport and DSC, Mike and his team at DSC offered to help see what's going on with my module so that is much appreciated!

None the less, I say buy the module and see for yourself! I drove around this morning with the OEM again and swapped back to the DiabloSport module at lunch. It's a very rewarding drive with the module in; especially with low speed/high speed turns and rail-like, controlled acceleration. It should have come like this from the factory.

I feel it's worth the $995 (DiabloSport) or even $1378 (DSC Sport) when compared to other bolt-on upgrades like a $1400 exhaust, $400 intake, $300 Tazer etc. I also see the benefit of paying for the more expensive version: guaranteed tunability, and outstanding tech support are key benefits for the extra $300+.

Just got mine today and from a hardware perspective, this is very disappointing.

The plastic case looks terrible (fit and finish).
Hardware inside had a bridge wire to fix a mistake
Main (only) controller inside is a cheapo 16-bit DSPIC.
Definitely not even $50 in BOM.
Also for the price, could have tossed in a mini USB cable for it.

Hopefully the difference it makes to the feel of the car will make up for it. Will install it later tonight to test it out.

DSC never replied to my email a week ago...
More driving impressions:

Did a 5 1/2hr road trip and back. In one word, "connected" with the road is what it felt like. Was able to round several turns on the trip at a much higher MPH than before. Quite an impressive improvement!

How do you know that is a fact?
Anyone here played with the tuning to make it a bit more comfortable?
I went on a drive last night after installing this and the regular street cruising was definitely a bit firmer.

My understanding is that I can turn down the default rate a bit on the gcomfort settings and maybe increase the G box and that should give me the desired effects without too much messing about in the other values.

Otherwise, on a bit of a push around some fun roads, this definitely felt more composed!

Most of our home electronics have a low cost of BOMs. We are paying for the R&D and future development costs, salaries, marketing, overhead costs, and profit margins in that $950 difference.

Beyond the lack of mechanical retention holding the jumper in place I don't see the problem here?

Yep, I'd tack that "white wire" to the PCB with about 4 spot bonds to prevent a future failure due to vibration / flexing of the wire across that span since it's located behind the driver side rear wheel. At least a suspect condition if someone's DS / DSC suspension controller goes down in the future. I wonder what the fail safe state of the suspension controller is (last setting, OE street, limp home mode, . . .)?

Still waiting on a shipping notice or an email notification that it's been delayed for mine. Ordered from DS on 3/25. It was listed as in stock when I ordered it and it is still shown in stock on Diablosport's web page. Maybe they are fixing the number of allowable read / write cycles? I'd be happy with the delay if it's for that reason.

@SquirrelMaster - is there a revision number on the PCB?
