I've looked through several threads on here and also reviewed the DodgeGarage.com differential fluid change procedure. Nobody mentions thread sealant or teflon tape when replacing the plugs. I noticed that the threads on my plugs do not have any indication of having a sealant on them.

So with all that said, am I correct with assuming they do not need any thread sealant? I did see several posts about torqueing to 26 ft-lbs.

It does look like the plug has a bevel under the head of the plug that is probably making them seal. Just a guess though from my observation.

Thanks,
Dean

Yes no sealant the beveled head on the plug makes a seal.
That's what I thought from looking at it. Thank you for the confirmation.

Never heard of using sealant on diff plugs.
The last drag car I had was a 1989 Mustang GT with the 8.8 rear-end. The fill hole on the rear-end and the aftermarket cover all had plugs with pipe threads. Therefore I always had to use thread sealant on the ole Stang.

Got the additive?
Yes I do. Now for the story...

I went to my local Dodge dealer to get the Mopar additive and the parts manager gave it to me for free. I told him that wasn't necessary and he insisted on giving it to me. He only asked that I come back to him when I need parts. He definitely earned some future business from me.

Gotta acknowledge that, good guy there!
