Does this sound like the bearing on the Supercharger going bad

Hopefully I've been able to figure out how to load a short video.
About a week ago sitting in traffic I could hear what sounded like a noisy pulley bearing.
It sounds like it is coming from the Supercharger.
My good friend and mechanic Brian is off to SEMA next week so we will have to sort this out when he comes back.
Almost sounds to me like I have an air leak as well.
Be interested to hear your thoughts on this

Lord Hellcat, it does sound troublesome and probably worth sitting her down until your trusted mechanic returns from Vegas. I'm sure that's not want you want to hear, but it's a conservative approach I would take in your shoes. Best of luck diagnosing and fixing an imbuggerance.

Have you considered removing the blower belt and starting it to see if the noise goes away?

I was looking on Steve White parts to see if the pulley is available separately. Doesn't look like it yet but definitely worth checking out.

It would be nice if you had a defective idler pulley. That would be a cheap part swap.. I'd definitely pull the belt and start it. At least then you know if it's one of the pulleys or not.

WoW,
I would have no idea, I had a video from the same area of your engine that I posted on youtube for a catch can issue but as you can tell I don't have that noise. I also notice in you video your catch can hoses look not as collapsed as mine do. I removed my can as I don't trust the hoses. Sorry, Im getting off topic.
( not that my video will help but IF you need something to compare)

I know when I buy my used cop cars I change out the belt tensioner on most as the excessive idling the cops do with the heat damages that tensioner and it becomes noisy but thats at like 100K miles but guess it could go bad early? I would have it checked out ASAP . Good luck tracking it down. Best catch it before something goes

Lord Hellcat How many miles (or should I say km) do you have on your car now?
Just over 3800 miles. We still use mph here and the car came from the US. Not sure if the car would even start without the Supercharger belt attached. But when you kill the ignition you hear the noise run on for a brief moment that would also help point the problem towards a Supercharger issue.
I also agree that I should park it up and wait for Brian to get back from SEMA. Just hoping it is the bearing in the Supercharger snout and nothing more serious.

You can pick up an inexpensive stethoscope with a metal probe on the end and touch it to the exterior pulley housing. If it's a bearing you will hear a loud metal to metal grinding sound in the housing. If not you can use the probe to find out where the noise is coming from. I wouldn't be without a stethoscope. Great for isolating bad alternator bearings, bad water pump, etc.

My supercharger tensioner was replaced two weeks ago. I took my stethoscope with me to the dealer. SRT tech confirmed and he ordered the tensioner, bracket and bolts and replaced them all. I had just over 4000 miles when a noise like a valve train problem started -- I placed the stethoscope on the back of the bolt that holds the tensioner and that was it beyond a shadow of a doubt. I was relieved -- a valve train problem is not something I wanted to even think about. Mine sounded a bit different in that there was a definite click along with the noise of a bad baring. Hope that is all that is wrong with yours. Curious how many tensioners have been replaced -- the part seemed plenty strong but sounded horrible. FYI I ran the car for two weeks until the parts came in -- no problem but noise increased over time.

66stingray They did open a case dealer did so when car was dropped off, immediatey. It was worse on that day, compared to a vid I may have already posted.

I will see what I can get together.

If I was you I'd monitor for changes keep your cool. If you know you have a strong tech. If you're unsure there maybe ask a nearby tech. Or if another hellcat is on the lot or nearby compare. Remember you may have nothing wrong.

Now mine sounds like an earlier post after the change and how my 2015 did so didn't bother shooting another.

Sometimes you need to find someone that has the knowledge and experience to figure out the issue........before spending your hard earned money at the dealer....which is a coin toss on who diagnoses your precious car.......believe me.....I have worked with a lot of brain dead people at dealers over the last 35 years.....find a GREAT tech for your car!!!!! (even under warranty)

Here's mine. The "best" bad-supercharger-bearing audio/video ever!

1,700 miles on the car. The "whine" started pretty quiet but grew to this over 100 miles or so.

Took it to the dealer last Friday and they (and Dodge) agreed to its bad-ness. New supercharger was ordered and arrived today. To be installed tomorrow. The Tech said this is > $10,000 job (parts and labor) so hooray for warranties!

Updates to be posted after the install...

Best regards,
Rich

Had the same problem on mine the end of last August just before putting the car up for the winter. Sounded HORRIBLE. Couldn't even hear the supercharger. We have a level 4 tech that takes care of Vipers, SRT's, and now Hellcats at our dealership and after we sent a video to Starline (Chrysler engineers), they didn't touch it and it went straight to some Team SRT that deals with Hellcats. We didn't know they existed. But they didn't want it touched and we had a complete supercharger unit there within a week. They wanted it swapped out, nothing else touched on it and shipped back. No problems since. That was at about 240 miles. :)
