Driveshaft... DSS or Wiles?

7706 Views 69 Replies 22 Participants Last post by  OldMoparGuy
Hey everyone, looking for advice. I have an original design DSS 4" aluminum driveshaft, and I wanted to know if the new design still has the old vibration issues. I also see that Wiles now has a 4' vs the 3.5". Does anyone have the new Wiles? if so, is there ANY vibration at highway speeds (60+). Looking to get as much info and recommendations as possible from people who have had both the new style DSS and new Wiles on their cars and have run the gambit with them. Thanks!

Livernois is the better of the three options.
Hey can you explain the difference in design besides wiles?
My experience installing my 4in. Wiles in my ‘15 M6. I had to pull it out two or three times to fit it but we’re all good. Got it up to about 95 but no vibrations. You could see on the d/s weld exactly where it was hitting the shifter and it left a mark on the shifter as well. I just hit those areas (on the shifter, didn’t touch the ds) with a grinding wheel for a while. Took off enough material to clear it, and when I took the driveshaft out for the last time in order to put Loctite on the bolts I hit it one more time just for a little extra insurance. Only problem I couldn’t properly torque them down as I couldn’t get a torque wrench in so I just tightened them up nice and firm. 👍. Not a tough job at all, just a little tedious but if you guys don’t have an issue with interference between the Barton and the d/s, it’s a bunt. R&R the exhaust is cumbersome with one person but dooable. Two people would be a big help. A worth while mod. Don't forget the cdv removal as well. Good luck.
Thanks for the input! Yep I always blue loctite my bolts and mark them with a white out pen so I can see if anything loosens over time on it’s own. I’ve had this entire car apart (literally) more than most in the hellcat world haha. Just trying to figure out if wiles is the way to go before I pull the trigger. Interested to hear about liver, so more people that comment with real world use the better!
I have a buddy 376 Hemi that has a dss and it has been sent back I believe 3 times now for vibration. Starts out good but after 5-10 runs with a stock redeye it starts to vibrate again.
It’s like when I spin the tires it’ll get out of balance for a while or hit a pot hole it’ll balance it back out. That being said, is your friend selling his stock redeye driveshaft? 😁

Wiles 5000 miles so far no issues. About 40 1/4 mile passes. About 8 one mile passes over 180. One 1.5 pass at 203. Zero vibration at the higher speeds.
Awesome thank you! What about at lower speeds? Do you daily the car at all? Really appreciate all the input.

Ralph Wiles spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me talking. That sealed the deal for me when deciding to go with him. He also gave a forum discount which you might want to mention.
Awesome I’ll definitely have to mention that. Also on another note, I hope they’re okay! I know they’re in Tennessee which got clobbered by hurricane Ida!

Ask him about a two piece. When we talked about 1.5 yrs back he was not happy about the carrier bearing he engineered so was still doing the 1 piece foam filled 4inch, which is what I’m running.
I think I know what his hang up on the 2 piece was….. take a look. Mark Williams 2 piece driveshaft might as well be the wiles, however.. they patented the carrier bearing design for a 2 piece 😑

awesome
Yes I also spoke to Ralph Wiles twice to make sure this drive shaft would be good at 200 miles an hour.

Made the nine hundred mile trip to Maine in July to do the LSR event. Tire balance has never been perfect in this car with the original Pirellis or the Pilot Sport S4 on there now. I also believe the rear diff brace creates a slight resonance or vibration also. Overall the car is fairly smooth I do not believe I'm picking up any drive shaft vibration. But with that being said it is still not as smooth as my eight year old Mercedes E550
awesome thank you! Steering towards Wiles now.

Yea, 3.2k wasn't happening for me. Now they are 4k? No way!
Yeah! The price on it went WAY UP! I was looking at it a year or so ago, and even the $3200 was way steep.

Has anyone heard of the redeye pr demon (same driveshaft) stock one pretzeling? I know the rear diffs grenade, but have the driveshafts been holding up?
I had a DSS, shook so bad couldn’t use the rear view mirror. Been running a 4” Wiles for almost 3 years now, had it up to 194 mph and it sees 145 at least once every time it’s out. Besides a 2 piece for 3 times the cash it’s battleship of a shaft.
Thanks man, really appreciate it. Now I know why dss ones are on sale for so cheap right now haha

I run a bill Englewood in both my charger (before I sold) and in my challenger. I’ve been very satisfied
Bill wnglewood? Not familiar with them. Do you have a link to their website?
What’s your experience with it? Aluminum or carbon fiber?
Aluminum and I don't have any problems with it just perfect only driveshaft where I haven't heard a single complaint about vibrations unlike the DSS etc..
That’s very good to know, I’ll look into them. Thanks for the info.

Did you have to custom order it from them?
just gotta call and ask if they have any in stock I waited awhile for mine but worth the wait knowing I wouldn't have any problems or vibrations at high speeds, the car is buttery smooth now.
Awesome. Can you tell me ballpark what yours cost? Any pics of it?
about 12-15 hundred forget the exact price but definitely worth every penny. CCI 2015+ DODGE CHALLENGER HELLCAT AUTOMATIC DRIVESHAFT they have a few pics on here I do have one but its on my phone so I cant post it atm but ill post it later if you want a more up close view.
Awesome thanks for the link just what I needed
