She's never been in the rain... just turned 14 K miles but oh well. In all reality... this is a Tribute Trip to my wonderful 90 year old Dad who passed away on January 1. I've been there three times; he was not able to make it with me. Sure sent him lots of pics. This trip will be in His Honor. Gonna try and break my high speed record for him somewhere way out on I-10. Gotta bust past 165 MPH. She is 100% bone stock with the all season tires still on. Not even half worn out. I will NOT have a valet park it. I will park it myself in the 'regular' parking lot. It will have a black cover on it, a very beefy wheel lock, Neutral Pull Cover. Steering Wheel Club & a Ravelco system. Should be able to sleep fairly well with all those goodies. Will do an oil change before departing. Only 'worry' is about not having a full sized spare tire. I do have a 'plug' kit, if that would help.
Other than that.... let's go Kitty. You can finally stretch you legs to the fullest. I'll take tons of pics.

Knuckle,

Sorry to hear about your Dad. We wish you the best. Nothing better than a tribute car trip to warm the heart and reminisce about old times. I am certain his spirit will be riding along having a great time, content with your happiness.
Enjoy, be safe, live like there is no tomorrow (y)

So, any plans on purchasing something special or just a spectator?

Be careful on I-10. The times I have traveled on I-10 the freeway was heavily patrolled with not only (in CA) CHP but (in AZ) AZ state troopers and Immigration and drug interdiction vehicles. Have not been on I-10 as much as i-40 but on I-40 from Barstow to Needles I have spotted the "bear in the air" thanks to my V1 which picked up radar signal from the ground support vehicles. I looked around and spotted a very low flying small plane off to one side of the freeway. Generally small planes that follow the freeway stay directly above the freeway and cruise at a much higher altitude that they are mostly invisible from the ground.

Haven't had a radar detector in decades.
Is the V1 the way to go? Easy to use?

V1 is the only radar detector I've owned and I've owned this unit since I think I bought it sometime in 2000.

It is easy to use. I use the suction cup holder and stick the cups to windshield. Be sure the unit is below any tint or some other glass treatment that may extend a ways down from the top of the glass. I like to be sure the unit is level and aimed "straight" ahead. I don't bother to hardwire the unit. The V1 slides out of the holder easy so you can remove it and take it with you when you leave the car overnight. I do this. No reason to give some butt head a temptation to smash the glass to steal the radar detector.

While a good piece of hardware the detector does not make your car invisible to radar or laser.

What I have found a good addition to the V1 is a hand held CB radio ideally connected to a large antenna that could be mounted (via its mag base) to the outside of the car. But in some cases this is not practical but just having antenna propped up vertical in the back seat will have the radio picking up transmission from several miles away. What you are after are bear reports from big rig drivers.

However, as talkative as that bunch is they seem to clam up in CA. (But not before as has been my experience when just about entering CA issuing an expletive filled rant about the state or when leaving shout out a hallelujah.) I think the 55mph limit and probably strict enforcement of same and traffic congestion really takes more concentration.

But out of CA and in every state west of the Mississippi they are more talkative.

Oh, here's what can happen on I-10. Granted not in CA but still... Ouch!

Nice security setup! 👍

Mine is very similar. And Revelco is King! 🕺

You might consider this (monthly subscription required, but pretty inexpensive). Better yet, very portable.

AMERICALOC GL300 GPS Tracker MXW Amazon.com

And Ameriloc customer service is stellar.

They’ve even contacted me out of the blue when my tracker hasn’t hit their servers in awhile (because my 2020 Scat Wide Body is a garage queen, and I might go months without using it).

They just wanted to know if all is well.

Can’t beat that! 🤠
