DC is around 350 miles from my house, and I'd like to not incur the cost to have it transported home.

I have a PPF installer lined up in my hometown but want to provide some temporary protection for the ride home until I get the actual PPF put on. Anyone have any ideas for temporary PPF outside of the tedium of applying painters tape?

I seen painters tape or if you want to spend more they sell track tape that is clear and thicker. Look up track day tape or something. It’s made for cars that run on tracks to protect their paint during the events. It’s not super cheap though probably $100 for a roll? Could even be more but seems like if your taking your lambo out price is no object lol

I used some cheap clear PPF from Amazon. I bought it first to protect my other cars fenders for burn outs. LOL. When I had to have the PPF replaced on my fenders and part of the front I put it on there. Looked so bad but it was protected and that is all that matters. Of course I didn't really drive while I waited a week to get into have it redone.

I would just drive it home and put the money saved on temporary PPF towards the actual product

painters tape is good for keeping rubber off your fenders, won’t do much for rock protection on the interstate. I wouldn’t put any worry on bugs because your car is getting paint correction before the PPF. Enjoy the ride

I don’t mean to be negative or anything but breaking in a new engine. You should be doing a lot of city type driving. Don’t keep the RPMs steady like highway driving.
‘You probably already know, just thought I’d mention it

true but a lot of us(including me) have to drive our new cars back on the highway. I plan to take it easy and try to go slower and faster as much as I can.

I know this was not the point of my post, but I very much appreciate the insight. I can extend the trip home by 1.5 hours and take some back roads which would be much more scenic anyhow. I am(hopefully) a few weeks away from picking it up and have not started to research the break in process...do you have any other suggestions?

not necessary , your engine is "broken in" within the first few miles. I'm also sure you know these engine take a few trips to the rev limiter on the dyno before being installed in your Dodge fleet car

Bringing this thread to a close.
I ended up forgoing any type of temporary PPF/painters tape; partially due to the input of the gentlemen who did the PPF and ceramic coat.

I took back roads through a scenic route on the trip back home from Dan Cummins to keep it under 60mph during that crucial break-in period. About 315 miles in total on that first trip and staying off the interstate I had no issues with rock chips or anything of the like.

Have you looked at any of the oil analysis threads? A member just posted yesterday first oil change 500 miles. And the oil analysis shows some metal and other crap from assembly. It’s normal for a new engine, factory filled oil.
That Proves the engine hasn’t finished breaking in. It will clear up after more miles and oil changes. The transmission and differential has to break in properly too. Also the brakes. The owners manual Break in recommendations says avoid aggressive braking just up to 300 miles. When you get to 300-500 miles we can exercise full engine RPMs. And don’t participate in track events for the first 1500 miles. There’s more stuff about break in in the owners manual performance guide.

But you guys that don’t believe in these break in procedures just for the first 500 miles. Do what you want. I don’t care.
