The beginning of the video has the Cat doing a burnout and the exhaust sound awesome! This is the closest I have heard to the actual car that I have heard on any clip.

Our video crew is top notch and they did an outstanding job on that one. Very proud of those guys!

My first managing editor blew off my idea because he thought it would be a waste of time. His replacement told me to cancel the delivery because it didn't fit his schedule. Neither one likes Mopar, but I ordered the car anyway and I was able to complete the test drive and the article.

So this was something I fought long and hard for as an editor. Either way, I do appreciate your kind words! This was, by far, my favorite article to write!

To your second question, yes, I kept the fob in my pocket the whole time and you can lock/unlock the doors, and open the trunk just having it nearby. I didn't notice that at first (my Mopar still requires a key to lock the doors - 1965 Belvedere).

I had the fob in my pocket when a friend drove the car, I got out to take a pic and the dash warned that the fob was almost out of range (I think he said that the dash showed "Fob has left the vehicle" or something like that. It didn't shut down, as I was only a few feet away. I actually liked that feature about the car, but didn't include it because I was told all the current models did that.

Great write-up. It is very nice to have a real life review without the track and burnout part of it. Did you play with the black key or drive a bit on the 500hp setting?

We were only given the red key, but I did change settings to 500 hp and I did notice that it wasn't quite as quick on the powerband. Tim Kuniskis had said that it won't change fuel mileage, so it wasn't worth it to keep it at 500.

Cruising the freeway at 65, I saw that flat ground only used about 20-35 hp, and uphill used about 55-95 hp, with the rpms staying under 2,500 in sixth gear. So 500 or 700 wouldn't have mattered for mpg.

Have you even tried valet mode?

haha... I skipped right over it. After I saw what 500 was like, I didn't bother with the valet mode. it really chokes the car down, and does its job from what I've read. If I had a Hellcat, I'd take Leno's advice: don't let any valet ever drive your car.! : )

I might drive that thing in the snow once or twice a year (for the very little snow we get) that's why I was asking. Figured valet would kill all the "bad torque" in the snow.

You're probably right, you can't really get much power out of it in Valet, it was okay in 500 HP mode, but didn't have the same get up and go.

Yes, you just waive your hand by the sensor on the door and it unlocks when fob is on you. My 12 has that feature, it's awesome!

yes, the first time I put my hand under the door handle and it unlocked, I thought that was the coolest thing! It appears a sensor is on the underside of the handle, or you can push the button on top of the handle to lock/unlock it.
