A family member of mine won a contest at a mall; she has the option to pick a 95K MSRP SRT Durango Superstock or a 95K MSRP SRT Challenger Superstock. She wants to know which one to pick so she can sell for the most money possible; since she’s using that money for herself and parents. She has to choose one by the first of next month. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there saying that Challenger isn’t a good investment but there’s also info out there that SRT builds will be discontinued soon and so will the Durango line in 2024; that respectively would increase the demands for both cars I’ve mentioned would it not? Car resale sites are also a bit suspect since everyone quotes differently; that’s besides the fact we see equal amounts of both cars but with older models and different builds available online.

I’m terribly sorry if this sounds very noobish of us but can someone give their two cents as which one she should pick so she can resell it for the most money? We aren’t car enthusiasts by any means.

What is a Durango superstock?
I’m terribly sorry, the durango is a SRT hellcat. The challenger is the SRT super stock. You can tell we aren’t really experts on this considering they put both of them side by side with the word SRT on them.

It’s the most expensive builds for each respective car. That’s what I am trying to get across. Challenger is a SRT superstock and Durango is a SRT hellcat.

Well, one is a car and one is a suv so I can see the confusion. They only made a limited number of Durangos, and even less Super Stocks this year. This sounds like one of those made up facebook posts. Should I super charge my SXT or do a hellcat swap....and then plasti-dip the whole thing. Dare I ask what mall happened to have both of these cars for a "contest"

I believe both vehicles were / limited builds and all accounted for.

With that though, your family member will need to pay taxes on the vehicle's MSRP before receiving the vehicle. She may find out there is a cash out option.

Super Stock is not limited production just low numbers produced.

THIS, plus rarity/low numbers doesnt really enter into it since she is selling it after she gets it.
the Hellcat Durango was a one year only for 21 and was truely limited. If you dont have one you arent ordering one now and you would have to find one someone wanted to part with.

The SS was produced for 2 years now and you can order a new 22 for 4-5% under invoice via 3 forum dealers.
SO the Durango should bring more $$$

Are they giving your sister any $$ toward taxes? She will have to pay whatever % sales tax is on the car when she takes ownership and then will also be on the hook for Federal and state taxes in whatever her tax bracket is on $95k . I dont know if they collect that now or when she fills out her taxes.

Also, is there any stipulation that she cant sell it for X number of months or a year or whatever? If she cant, better have a place to keep it locked up cuz its going to get stolen if left out for a while anywhere.

The Durango will sell for more. If you stuff it in storage until Dodge stops making all Hellcats, then you'd make a super premium on it as selling an un-driven instant collector vehicle.

But, if you just want to do the quick cash method, both will likely sell for about the same price. The Durango -should- sell for a little higher, but the Challenger Super Stock will sell faster. As you're not a dealership and can't finance people, you are going to have to likely wait on a cash buyer with 95 grand on hand or try and auction it. Lots of banks won't loan on a used car. The MSRP may be 95 grand, but even if you don't drive it, it's still tagged as used. The prospective buyers will have to find their own bank loan and have to pony up 20 grand or so in cash to offset the loan value... or just pay cash outright.

And, whatever you do, don't let anybody test drive it. Write up a basic contract that says they can return the vehicle within 30 minutes of purchase, damage free, and you'll return their money if they don't like the vehicle. But, you simply do not let people test drive a 700+hp car. Either they already know what it is and what it can do and don't need to test drive it, or they don't. You don't want to let people without experience test drive these things. Especially when the vehicle is new.

If they insist, take them on a drive and let them ride. Take it to a mechanic for them. But I would not let someone off the street drive a no-miles brand new SRT.

DURANGO Hellcat is the right option. Not only is it a limited run, but it has four doors and plenty of cargo space which increases the resale value because you will have more buyers out in the market compared to a two-door coupe.

Also different markets on the Durango versus SS. I am guessing the SS would sell faster but when I looked at my Durango I wasn’t even considering the other variants (I traded a Challenger in for it). The utility + family hauler was the appeal to spending too much money. 😂
