I'm old school, when we used to actually have a spare tire & a jack.

Has anyone had a flat tire on their HC & had to use the factory 'inflator kit'?
I have little faith in it. Hesitant to go on a long road trip without a full size spare & jack.
Is this just my OCD kicking in? Has anyone had any luck with the factory kit?

A guy at America's Tire told me they 'may' work for very small punctures, but not for larger ones.
I know about the SOS in the mirror, but what if you broke down in an area with no reception?
Thanks!

In my trunk I keep the inflator kit and an actual tire plug kit. Neither of those will help if you get a total blowout. I have used the inflator kit. I hit a screw and it sealed it up until I got home and I took the wheel off and plugged it myself. There is no substitute for a spare tire though. They just take up a ton of room in the trunk. I don't think a full size spare will fit back there to begin with.

Now, let's look a second at this issue with some old school Vulcan logic. How often are you in an area that has no reception? I believe the SOS button uses satellite comm, but don't shoot me if I'm wrong. Regardless, let's assume we're dealing with cell only. How often are you somewhere that has no cell reception? Now, what are the chances that you get a flat tire and what are the chances that said flat occurs in an area with no cell reception?

For me, that answer is maybe 1% of the time I don't have cell reception, and I do quite a bit of cross-country driving (17k miles on my 2020 Hellcat in 15 months). In 17k miles I had 1 issue with a tire and it was just a leak, not a blowout. In my case, if I did get a blowout, I don't think I ever traveled very much on roads that didn't get at least a few cars per hour... so I could shake a sexy leg and try and get someone to stop and help.

But, if it ever did happen that you got a blow out with no spare in the middle of an abandoned wilderness. I'm just going to say I hope you have passenger(s) because if it also happened in winter, that's a Donner party situation. Thankfully we're not in 1847 anymore and if you get snowed in while driving a Hellcat in the snow... and blow a tire... then you pissed off your maker because that's some real sh*tty luck.

I'm a Boomer too, and I ask myself this...........How long can I afford to be out of commission. On long trips, I carry a full-sized spare and jack, around town, nothing.

I couldn't see myself driving around without an actual spare, so I bought a kit from Modern Spare (as someone mentioned above, it's the same thing):

The quality is good, although I ended up getting a different jack. It fits seamlessly into the spare well in the trunk, and adds a bit of extra weight on the rear wheels (which is a good thing for these cars). You would have to get rid of the subwoofer though (I don't miss it, but I'm sure it wouldn't be an option for many).

I got a razor blade stuck in the side on my tire in Houston during TX2K and I had forgot I took the inflator out to use to air up my drag radials and left it in the garage. I had to use a plug at the gas station but it worked well enough to get me back to the Hotel to my truck and trailer. Used a inflator kit on an M3 and worked fine, its just not going to help you in the event of an actual blowout.

It will work one time only... it is a good idea to keep a scissor jack, plug kit, and a can of fix a flat in the trunk.

The wheel looks like it is a full 1" less total diameter than stock 20" wheel with 275 tire. Is that ok?
Actually they have engineered it where it is almost exactly the same rolling diameter as the OEM tire. This way it won't screw with a limited slip dif when you put them on the rear. I actually had to set up with my last car. Really good quality.

around town I have the plug kit to fix a flat also the small spare tire kit where the junk Kardon boom box use to sit.
Long trips I have a full size spare, I also have an aluminum floor jack wrapped in a blanket in the trunk, also a AAA card and cell phone, owned the car for 6 years, no tire issue.....yet.

You invoked Vulcan logic. Now I have to grudgingly give you some respect dammit. Even if you do drive a Romulan ship now…
Totally off topic, but I am a space nerd (former profession) and a movie and comic memorabilia collector. I've got a pair of Spock's prosthetic ears from the original series :)
