Anyone driven or have an Explorer ST? My family just grew and the Charger Hellcat back seat seems so tight.
Entertaining the idea of trading my car for one of these and would like some input. Haven’t made it to the dealer to test drive one yet but will soon.
45k max budget, or else I would get HC Durango.

my 2018 Explorer XLT 4wd is a great vehicle. A lot of room. My wife’s power wheelchair fits in the back with no problem. Don‘t get the cheap radio. Get the Sony. upgrade also from the cheaper seats and get 3rd row seats . I hardly use the moonroof. You aren’t going to get an ST for 45k Unless a used one with miles.
I never got stuck in Chicago area snow with the 4wd.

I like the Explorer ST. I am considering trading in my daily driver (tuned 16’ WRX). I have had several explorers as rentals and they driver great and very comfortable. I believe the ST has 400 hp and you can tune for more.

Well if it matters, they have great power potential. With some decent mods, you can easily run deep 12's even dip into the 11s with a few more parts and tuning. They are stout when tuned with a downpipe and IC upgrade. I've seen them run 0-60 sub 4 seconds. I kicked around getting one as a kid hauler, but new ones are almost $60k for the loaded ones. Thats a lot for a ford.

Had a '21 for a year before the Hellcat... Even did the "Track Day" ST Weekend in Asheville, NC... It's OK. Mine was fully loaded and did have a ton of featutes/tech... But man, super expensive for an Explorer. Never had an issue with it and I suppose is "quicker than most" SUVs in its class... But for that price I might sooner look for a used BMW M Powered SUV.
... the engine will sound EV-like after coming from the HC. Not very torquey too

It's a lot for any car. New car pricing is out of control. Don't be a brand snob. We drive a DODGE. No one is impressed.

I was all in on getting an Explorer, then I saw a Grand Wagoneer. Almost ordered one but they are too proud of them. Way more than explorer as well. Plus I get Ford A plan, but at this time & economy/Russia etc. I think I'll just wait awhile. They are nice though, I'd like to take a road trip in one first.

For the price and a sporty feel the ST is leaps and bounds ahead of the RT durango. I’m a die hard dodge fan and when I test drove the ST I put one on order.
I will say ford is having some issues with diffs falling out beause they only used 3 bolts instead of 4. The saftey recall and how they come off the lot now is the parking brake is set everytime you put it in park.
the problem I am seeing is after rains the pads rust to the rotors and won’t release if I don’t drive it for a few days after they get wet.
I am working on tuning mine. I am hoping when the rain stops the tune in it is ready for release to public. I was fighting a few issues and only working on it when I was bored so haven’t had a ton of time yet. But I am doing 0 to 60s tune only in the 4.4 4.5 range. I’m notpushing it as hard as some tuners do because to me it’s not a race car. Not worth blowing a trans or engine which does happen more than people realize when they try to get 100 extra hp on pump gas. We’ve talked about selling it but for the price I don’t think their is a better suv on the market. If you buy it for the price I think you’d be happy.
If you want to toe buy the Durango.

As long as it’s not the EcoBoost. Theyre throwaways. Not sure if you can even get one without it anymore.
